Installed new R1 rotors, Akebonos pads and 18in amg rims
The rotors looked nice and installed without problems, pads came with the wrong sensors ride is ok from 17 to 18 in rims. The brakes are noisy but the noise should go away ones I put some miles on them. Now have to sell 17in rims and new sumitomo tires. Overall if the noise goes away I will be happy with the purchase.

Thank you for the compliments.
The car has stock suspension and I will stay with stock suspension; NY potholes are unforgiving.
The front and rear rotors are drilled.
I was looking to purchase clk55 but could not find the one that I liked for the reasonable price and I accidentally stumbled on this car (clk550). The car is in very good condition inside and out and has all options except key less go, it has desgno interior which is very nice graphite wood and light seats that look different from the normal ones. I think interior is similar to AMG interior, have never see one like this and could not stop myself from purchasing it.

Please give us a follow up review and tell us how you like the combo (brake feel; stopping power; if the noises went away)!
Nice car, BTW!

I will try to get some pictures but it will probably have to wait until the weekend.
Maybe its metallic gray but I called it graphite gray previously. It very dark gray.

Nice car.. What did the pads and rotors cost ya? I blew up my left front wheel and tire on the Bruckner a few days ago. Your 17" are 10 spoke? if so what do u need for them.

Carlos, I strongly recommend you go a different route with the power and torque you now have. My Akebono pads are already off and in the garbage. I'm waiting on a new 4 corner kit, I'll have a review up when they come in. For regular street driving the Akebono's are okay and yeah, wonderfully dust free but any spirited driving... they turtle faster than Biatch Laden behind his wife. R1 rotors are a-okay but the drilled and slotted combo reduces a whole lot of surface area.

So should I just buy the factory pads or do you have a different recommendation (I just want an option that performs better than the OEMs, regardless of dust properties)?
Sorry for the thread jack OP.

This is the first time ANYBODY gave a different opinion on the Akebono pads. Everybody mostly reports the noise-less and dust free properties, but never reported on the high stress performance. BBK is always on the to do list, but is not a high priority right now (would much rather wait for a classifieds deal), so I was planning on doing small upgrades on the factory brakes (they are not that bad, also used on the CLK55s of the same year). I did already gotten the R1 Concepts front/rear rotors (found a 15% off coupon with free shipping and had to jump on it) and was really close to buying the Akebonos from Tire Rack.
So should I just buy the factory pads or do you have a different recommendation (I just want an option that performs better than the OEMs, regardless of dust properties)?

I have pics of the pads when I took them off, 75-80% worn (maybe a total of 1,000km on them and again, only 7 laps) and chipped up & gouged. When they ripped apart they also mucked up my rotors, I had the rotors re-surfaced and put on a set of factory pads while I wait for my BBK's.
The R1 rotors are awesome, no prblems with them at all with exception of all the paint falling off after 1 short track night. If I was to reorder them again for street use I would have just bought the cross-drilled rotors, not drilled and slotted.
For you, go with the R1 rotors and a great set of pads I used on a track car back home - EBC 'red-stuff'. I should have gone with them but after hearing the rave reviews on the Akebono's I decided to give them a try. Oh, and the red's are also virtually dust free...

I think that I am the only one who has a different opinion on the Akebono's because I'm the only one who hard-tracks the car. For the street they are fine and my wheels stayed wonderfully clean. On the track, they were cooked after SEVEN laps and as a result, I had total brake fade/failure and had to do some very unique driving to avoid plowing into a car ahead of mewhile we were going into the first turn at well over 200kph...

My favorite combination was drilled rotors and red's, I really had no issues at all with them. I'd run that combo again but my situation no longer makes it an option, I need something big with serious clamping power.

The brakes are still noisy. I drive the car only on weekends so hopefully the noise will go away. If I drive a little hard they make even more noise, very embarrassing driving a Benz with squealing brakes. On the good note the oil is no longer leaking so the plastic plugs did fix my problem. I also installed some K&Ns and cleaned MAF while I was in there. Working on Benz is very different, even disconnecting electrical plugs is pain. Below are the pics of the car this time taking with the camera instead of the phone.

The ceramic pads will make noise until they are broken in, obviously that will take a while is the car is only used on the weekend. Great interior BTW.
