Front fender repaint estimate - CLK55 ?
I'm thinking of traveling 6-7 hours to look at a 2002 clk55 cabrio that will need the entire front fender repainted. Apparently it was painted once already but the dealer tells me its not a good match. No clue why it was painted but the carfax shows it clean. It's in Chicago at Luxury Car Outlet if anyone has seen it (long shot I know)
Any estimate on how much can I expect to pay for a good job?
I am very mechanical myself, so imagine I could remove the fender if it saved me a bundle of cash. Dealer said he would take the estimated amount off the cost of the car, but I'm sure he will low ball me.

If you are going to drive there take the test drive to the local MB dealership and get an estimate. My guess is a little less than $1000.

Since hourly rates vary, one must look at this in hours and quality of the repair.
1 - Sand or strip paint to bare metal. This is in regards to paint mil thickness.
2 - Color. Is blending onto the door (or even into the quarter) required. For example if it has mica metal flakes or a tint coat or colored primer.
3 - Polishing and sanding to match OEM orange peel/ texture.
4 - Part removal. Side moulding, inner fender liner, wheel, headlamp, hood seals, cowl panel (door belt moulding and handle if blending). Who wants paint lines?
5 - Cost of materials Glaserette (sp) Paint or Miracle Auto Paint?
6 - Masking the undercarriage (and all) to prevent over spray.
So, how many hours to do this and at what rate and parts cost?
(I think four hours is to low for a quality job.)
