this is just a filter....this doesn't take into account any sort of piping needed for a "cold air" intake...our intakes on the 550 are actually pretty decent....they start at the front of our cars and air is pushed in as we drive

Absolute garbage, nothing more that a POS filter. Our cars come from the factory with fresh/cold air intake systems (as Sleepy mentioned), a good BMC/K&N filter change will benefit you far more that the item you linked.
I've seen countless filter like this installed under the hood of lots of cars soaking up hot air and reducing performance yet every driver could "feel the power gains yo!"
I was in the auto performance & accessory industry long enough to have been tainted somewhat, forgive my grumpiness...
