20 MPH Beep?

When my 2007 CLK 350 reaches 20 mph after I start the car I hear a slight beep for a second or two. Any idea what that is? I have no clue.

I searched the forums and the manual but couldn't find an answer.

Thanks!

Drivers side seatbelt is fastened and the passengers side seatbelt is retracted. It happens whether I'm the only person in the car or if someone is in the passengers seat. It's not the seatbelt chime.

When it beeps, look at the instrument cluster and see if a message is displayed. Could be a low coolant warning like I had one time, I seem to remember it did it under acceleration. Might also be a mesasage that you're 1 liter low on oil... Just poking in the dark here.

I had the oil changed about a week ago. The beep happened before and after my recent Service A. Nothing lights up on the instrument cluster. It sounds like it's coming from behind the speedometer.

I'm under the impression this is a normal chime but I just don't know what it is. I usually drive the car in Comfort mode so maybe that's just letting me know it hit second gear? I'll drive the car in Sport mode for a few days and let you know the results.

Bizzare. Interested to find out what it is, I'm lost on this one and pretty much I know my car inside out... Never heard of a 2nd gear chime, maybe you have the flux-capacitor set at a low speed?

I started the car in sport mode a few times. Made it to 20 mph, no beep. As an aside, the throttle response in sport mode is amazing. I LOVE my car!

I know some non-USA models have speed limiters and speed warning indicators that can be set to assist the driver with meeting traffic laws. If yours is a USA-spec vehicle, it should not have that, but maybe somehow when you were going through the FSS reset process it got activated. I can't imagine how it would do that, but I guess there may be some undocumented functions that could cause it. Years ago when I had a W163, I ran across a fellow owner on a forum who had somehow ended up with an ML that would set the speed limiter function. We think it might have been that his cluster had an incorrect country coding.

Wow, very interesting! I rarely get the car over 100 mph. Do you think it's worth going to the dealer to find out?

Going to the dealer will be a crapshoot. If the mechanic is good, he will check the country coding and possibly even do some recoding of the cluster to see if something is corrupt. If he's lazy, he'll just claim you need a new cluster which will cost around $1,800.
