Tranny fluid ..brown
Hey guys,
Just scooped a 2003 clk500, love it so far. Just had a quick question as I am a bit confused.
It had a transmission service done at 90000km, now I am at 107 000km, I just had an oil change done the other day, and they checked the tranny as well, and it was brown, not pink or red at all... I am confused since it was done less than 20k ago, ..any opinions are greatly appreciated thanks.
Also apperntly I have seepage on the front main engine seal..how big of a job is that ..![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)

If it's a milky brown then get the radiator changed ASAP and flush the transmission again. It most likely has some coolant getting into the tranmission oil, it's a common problem.
Front main oil seal is a very minor issue, shouldn't take more than an hour.

thanks for the reply i appreciate it,
Would I notice a big loss of coolant, the tranny oil wasnt mily but it was more like a redishbrown black colour, (i guess would best describe it).
Im just trying to see if I can isolate the problem myself, before I pay big bucks.
I was told the tranny fluid put in can be brown, but I have never ever seen brown tranny fluid that is new![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Normaly where is the point of failure on the radiator to cause leakage into the tranny, sorry for my newbish questions ahha, my coolant level was right up to the top if that helps...

It can go black or dark brown with high milage, lighter brown can be coolant. It's very rairly enough coolant to notice a drop in level.
Unusual to change colour that quickly and the model and year is a prime candiate for a radiator problem, I wouln't be taking too many chances
