I have an 05 CLK500 and it has 92,100 miles and I bought it with 82,900 miles 1.5 years ago. How would I service it? I know a mechanic and dont want to go to the dealer unless I HAVE to. BTW I have a jerky shift (slippage?)from 1-2 in S mode.

The fluid was absolutely black. The magnets were coated with fine particulate - nearly as thick as the magnets themselves. That was at 40K miles. About 500 miles later, I had to drop the pan to fix a leak (I had a slight misalignment with the gasket) and the fluid was already dark again, and the magnets had a nice layers of particulate. Here's my thread linked below. There is a photo of the old filter and the oil colors on a white cloth whre you can see the darkness:

Used my usual awesome indy who did the whole transmission service for about $400. Got my car at 45k, brought in for service at 49k and trans fluid was black sludge. No way what I saw could be healthy. I have a warranty for another 45k miles on mine, but I'd rather my transmission be in good shape in the meantime. What I've learned is don't subscribe to the "wait until it breaks" philosophy with a Benz...enjoy the ride!
