Clk320 auto gear problem

Hi all
I have a 2000 model clk320 avantgarde sport convertible.
We have left off road for the last approx 3 months but now want to start driving again. Following charge of battery, the car started first time no problem but cannot move gear stick from parked.
Any ideas?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ian.

Jump up & down on the brake pedal. Sounds like the interlock is stuck.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
You might want to check the W208 forum since that's what your MY2000 would be. But of course this issue won't be much different from the W209. I agree with Glyn - probably the shift interlock malfunctioning. Check your brake lights - if they work, then it's not the brake pedal (or it's switch) but something int he shifter itself. There is a mechanical override where you can insert a screwdriver and release the shifter in case. The slot is right below the "-D+" on the console.

I've found it to be a bad idea to "shift" out of park at the exact same time as you begin to press the brake pedal. I've never actually had the interlock jam up, but I was very subtly made aware that the car wasn't happy with me, on the couple of occasions I made this mistake (thoughtless result of being in a hurry). Always remember to press the brake pedal first before "shifting" out of park.

It should be noted that on earlier models the interlock was cable operated from the brake pedal & could sometimes require adjustment. Don't know which version the OP has. This could also vary by market dependent on antitheft devices fitted for that market.

Many thanks for your replies.
I have managed to get the car moving using the override via screwdriver slot and all gears working and brakes ok etc (brake lights functioning ok) but when placed back into park it locks up again.
Again any help much appreciated.

As yours is an early car this is what I suspect is fitted. You will have to climb under the dash & check. Of couse make sure the cable has not broken as well.
