Anyone done a keyless go mod?
Hey everyone, Just wanted to know if any one of you have ever done a keyless go yourself. What is required and what not, and is it a easy DYI or stay away?

As far as I know, it's not possible. It's too intertwined with the security features of DAS. You wouldn't even be able to get transponder keys because they must come from the factory, and their records wouldn't match that the vehicle has KeylessGo. I guess if you could find a donor car, you coudl do it, but it would require replacing the ECU, too. Honestly, you'd be better off trading yours in for another CLK that has it installed from the factory.

Thanks for the reply Rudeney. You are correct, its nearly impossible but it is possible. However, MB will does not release the security codes. I just did some research some people did it but they had connections at MB lol. I guess ill stay away. Thanks

I just had a 2012 GLK loaner for a day, and it had keyless entry but no pushbutton start. I wonder if that would be feasible to DIY in a W209......

You can't get keyless entry without KeylessGo. On the GLK, the Start/Stop button is on the dash, not the shifter, but the button is removable, and there is a standard SmartKey slot behind it. Someone must have removed it, maybe the dealer, in order to keep from confusing customers not used to KeylessGo. Or a customer took it. You'd be surprised at how many people will steal things from loaner cars. If it's not bolted on, it's probably going to go missing, and even some things bolted on will disappear.

"...take the button out of the dash for regular key access. This disables the keyless go function"
That GLK owner must be mistaken. No mention of it in the GLK manual tough.....

The START/STOP button just pops right out and behind it is a fairly normal looking SmartKey slot. My wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee has the same thing - it's basically a Jeep version of the new W166 ML, the last leftover of the Daimler-Chrysler marriage. The owner's manual for the Jeep mentions that if the battery in the key dies, pop the START button out and use the key. It doesn't "disable" the other functions of KeylessGo, it just lets you use the key to start the engine.

Thanks Rodney. As I've learned over the years, some forums here are more knowledgeable than others!
Off-topic, but did you get that much better a deal on the Jeep over a ML, or did they just have a W166 out before MB? I ask knowing you had a W163 before and assuming that you, like me and many others on these boards, have drunk the MB kool-aid see every other make as inferior.....

A lot of people remove the button in order to start the car with the key.

Hey, Eddie. It was all about what my wife wanted! Her last car was a Nissan Murano (incredibly reliable, but drove like crap). The ML would have been much more expensive than the Jeep. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with all the options as she bought it was right over $40K. A similar W166 would have been easily $60K. One thing the Jeep offers that's not even available on the ML (though we didn't get it on hers) is low-range gearing for off road driving. That is one reason I really liked the W163. Back when I had mine, we had a lake house with plenty of great trails to forge, but we sold that years ago. Now we just spend 4 hours in the car going to the beach condo, so our comfort and cargo needs take precedence over off road capabilities.
Really, I like pretty much everything about the Jeep except for two things - the seat bottom cushion is not deep enough, and there's too much hard plastic in it. Oh, and I'm not crazy about the 1970's Chrysler green cockpit illumination, but otherwise, it drives great and has a lot of room both in the cabin and cargo area. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever have an SUV I like as much as the W163. In fact, I've often looked for a good condition 2005 model, but they are few and far between. Besides, right now, I have too much fun in the CLK.

Keyless entry
I currently have a 2013 ML350 with keyless entry, but no button to push start. Is that a separate option. I would assume since I had the touch to open and close door knobs that I would have push start option? Any help would be greatly appreciated. VIN: 4JGDA5HBXDA127691 2013 ML350 4matic

Keyless Fob works with entry & ignition, push start button doesn’t
Called stealershio and they said I can bring the car in and they can run a diagnostic on the car for $179 to see why the fob works perfect, but the push start does nothing. Can anyone on this forum help with a solution.
