I can't see how the "real deal" up close and personal will prompt me to make a change over what I can glean from all the photographs posted of the new and improved (?) model. Looks like I'm happily "stuck" with my W208 55. Though I admit I wasn't too thrilled with the 208's design when it first hit the scene in '98. At first blush, the rear of the car reminded me of a Honda Accord coupe. That pic of the Acura Cl and it's resemblance to the W209 scares the Hell out of me. Imho, Robertl's comment (#2) sums it up best.

2003 CLK430 Cabriolet
I won't disagree the fact that the new CLK is more technologically more advanced in term of chassis construction and electronics but a car is like a girl. If the exterior isn't pleasing, most of us won't bother to check out what it has to offer inside. MB should know this and invest more $ on exterior design.

Any attempt to improve on the current CLK body style is just futile.

Wildbill,

Great to at least see you have an open mind... NOT! LOL

Nabzy,

thanks for posting the pics. So, the interior does not show wood going across the passenger side... interesting. Is this the same as in the new E-class? I am not sure if that is going to kinda look unfinished. Thoughts?

Angry also disappointed

Very disappointing, interior and exterior.

I'm in the "like the front end, hate the back end" camp. Also, those awful round vents...

Be glad they didn't add the "batman" instrument cluster from the new SL that looks like it came out of a Pontiac Grand Am.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
The new CLK 500 accelerates to 100 km/h in only 6.0 seconds, while the CLK 55 AMG takes just 5.2 seconds.
That tanslates to 0-60 mph takes 4.9 seconds for the new CLK 55 AMG with 20 more horses over

the present CLK 55 AMG, which does the identical time:

0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds! NO CHANGE from 208 to 209 CLK 55 AMG.

Elimination of the B pillar and enlargement over the W208 makes the new CLK a heavier boy. I speculate that MBZ felt the power increase necessary to keep the updated model's performance at least on par with the "old" 55. Can you imagine the banter on this board if the new car was.... slower??

I can't understand this, as this will have problems keeping up with the m3, and will only have more probs when the m3 re-design is out later...

R129 SL55 AMG & W208 CLK55 AMG
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN... I HAD THE PLEASURE LAST MONDAY OF SEEING AND SITTING IN A BRAND NEW CLK240. AND MY PERSONAL OPINION IS:

EXTERIOR: VERY DISAPPOINTING, IT LOOKS WORSE IN REAL LIFE THAN IN PICTURES. IT IS WAY TOO SMALL AND WAY TO ROUNDISH TO BE SLEEK. I AM VERY SORRY BUT PERHAPS MB EXPECT THE NEW CAR TO GROW ON US.

INTERIOR: CUTE, VERY NICE AND COMFY. MODERN DESIGN WITH GOOD INSTRUMENTATIONS. I DID NOT LIKE THE SETBELT TENSIONER THAT CREEPS UP ON YOU FROM BEHIND EVERYTIME U START THE CAR.

I SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS TRUE AND TO THE BEST OF MY MEMORY!
