Severe noise from engine
hi all, hope you can shed some light on my problem. I have a clk 500 w209 and every time i start it , it makes a loud wyning noise from front of motor, very loud to start with then gets quieter but always there.
The noise does get louder with high rpm.
Doesnt change pitch with steering wheel movement but i am still thinking power steering pump.
Hope this is a good description.

Also check the power steering fluid. My C class did exactly the same thing, the fluid was very low.

I hope it does not sound like this or you have a Torque converter/input shaft bearing/transmission oil pump failure.

Phew! I'm pleased for you. We have had a whole rash of these lately with people who do not service their transmission every 39K.
Then yours is likely just an idler or tensioner pulley.
