CLK550 vs. Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec
I was merging onto the interstate this evening and a guy in a Genesis Coupe pushed my pet peeve button - trying to shut me out of the merge. So I floored it and took off ahead of him. I probably peaked around 100mph, but then when I backed off, I saw him coming up fast, so I gave him a little run. Unfortunately, there was a little too much traffic to really have fun. In the mile-long exit ramp, he stayed on my tail, but each tap of the gas put a few car lengths between us. I think I could have left him, but he was still giving me a good run.
Specs for his car: 348hp/295lb-ft carrying 3,433lbs., 0-60 in 5.3, 1/4 Mile in 13.6 @ 104.1mph,
CLK550 Cabriolet: 382hp/391lb-ft carrying 3,965lbs, 0-60 in 5.2, 1/4 Mile 13.3 @ 107.8mph
Oh, and I was riding with the top down, windows and rear wind screen up, and there was not a hair out of place.

Yeah those Hyundais are quick. I love the new Genesis sedan commercial where they say the Genesis is quicker to 60 then a Panamera...who would actually even compare the two?? So ridiculous...
Theres really no comparison between your CLK and a Hyundai

Mid 13's? Damn, I never knew they were that quick. Sounds good on paper but pretty sure I'm not going to run down to the dealer and get one... Glad to hear that the hair remined intact

My previous car was a Honda Prelude, 2.0L pumping out 200HP. The car was a fun drive to drive. It was quick and agile. On the other hand, my CLK feel heavy and solid.
I went up to over 200kmh in both cars and the MB was a lot more stable. I did not feel safe in the Prelude at all at 200 kmh.
Also, I would drive the MB at high speed for extended time. For the Prelude, sure the car would go up to 200 kmh but i am not sure if the engine could take it for extended time.
Mind you, this was 10 years old and I am sure the Japanese cars have improved over the years.

Oh, I'm not worried about comparing the CLK overall to the Hyundai. I was just surprised at how the guy kept up with me. I assumed it was just another V6 Asian coupe that I can blow away with a blip of the right foot. But after we got off on the exit ramp, I stopped to turn left and he passed by and that's when I saw the R-Spec label. I did a little research, and, well, you see the specs. For the price, it doesn't seem to be a bad little car. And it's RWD, like any good car should be. But no, I wouldn't buy one.

I took a 5.0 Genesis Sedan for a spin this week and it's pretty damn fast! The 5.0 puts out 426HP and 375 ft/pnd torque. Once it his 3-5 the thing hauled azs. Performance is 13.1 in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 in under 5.0. For the price it's a great buy and they hold value more than our Merc's do. Hyundai has sure turned it around since the early days.

I just think Hyundais are fawkin ugly. I'd rather pick up an infiniti g37 than a genesis. I think the Honda accord coupe looks way better than the genesis. I'd rather have that, slammed on some volks with some hks goodies.
And...I also get a little annoyed when cars with msrp's half of mine start trying to hot rod around me when all i'm trying to do is go to work or I have my kid with me. It's like bro - I couldn't care less how quick your car is. you're not impressing me cause if I wanted to I could buy 2 of your cars and make them faster.

This is a great example of the new vs. used argument. Some folks just gotta have new, most putting a lot of value in warranties (which generally cover that wonderful period when not much goes wrong anyway). I have a cousin that was looking BMW 1-series and ended up buying a Hyundai Sonata (I know, right?) This, the same guy that buys a Westinghouse flatscreen at Walmart and says that anyone who pays extra for the "Samsung name" on their TV is nuts. Whatever. I asked what he paid for his "loaded" Sonata turbo: "They wanted $30K but I got it for $27K." Me? I'd have happily bought a 2009 CLK with a year of warranty left and kept about $2-3K in the bank.
Easier to do when the starting figure is $29K than when it's $56K, but the new Hyundai doesn't hold value better than my 3 year old MB's. I paid under $23K for my 2006 in 2009 and look what Mka77 just got for his 2006.....just sayin'
I think many of their models emulate MB's, or try at least. Maybe more of a "franken-car" taking styling ideas from many more established/expensive lines. I had a Sonata rental while getting body work and actually thought the styling, in and out, was rather good for a non-Lexus/Infiniti/Acura Asian car, but the car was a POS empty suit with regard to ride, handling, performance and even visibility.
