Stereo Question: Upgraded Alternator and Capacitor?
I did a pretty long search through the w209 forums looking for an answer and I didn't see this addressed so I will ask here. Apologies in advance if I missed the proper thread.
I've acquired a 1200 watt system with 2 12" AudioBahn subs in a box from a friend in need. I used to have thunderous systems back in college (~10 years ago) and I had to upgrade the alternator on my car so the battery wouldn't die often and get a capacitor to regulate the voltage.
I have decent highs and mid speaks (harmon kardon option) so I figured I would toss in these subs and see.
I guess my main question is: Do I need to upgrade the alternator? Should I get a capacitor for this?
I plan to simply buy a capacitor and see how it goes, but figured I'd ask you guys first. This system kicks extremely hard so I would probably have the amp around 1/4 of the way in the trunk if that changes things.

2x 12" subs? I think the alternator is the least of your problems - you're more likely to blow the trunk lid off! I put a 1KW amp and a single 12" in the kid's C240 and it's way too much! But then again, I guess it's probably fine for her at 17. For grandpa here, the stock HK system int he CLK is "just right".
