Make the ride less harsh

I want to replace the original tires on an 08 clk 350 convertible with four equal size 245/50R. I think the bigger aspect ratio, (higher side wall) will significantly improve the ride quality. I don't think wheelwell clearance is a problem. The original tires are 245/40R

The local MB dealer advises against doing it but primarily I think because its not the way the car was equipped originally.

I'd appreciate any thought on this.

You would have to recalibrate your speedo with Star but higher profile will make the car more comfortable as will selecting a tyre like the Michelin PS2

What wheel set up & offset are you running? A 245 will usually touch the front strut with 235 being the largest front tyre you can run with standard offset.

You're right. I have 225/45 F & 245/40 R. Maybe 235/50 all around?

235 all round will work but look slightly skinny on the rear. I'm still contemplating de-staggering mine & running rear wheels up front as well. I've decided if I do this to run 235 front & 255 rear on identical rims all round. Yes I know this means I can only rotate across the same axle. I just think it will look good & I can live with the increased scrub radius up front.

Yes if you have the standard wheels on the car.
