rim cracked and stranded =(

whats up fellas? sorry ive been MIA from the forum lately. I do read here and there but havent really had time to participate. def miss being on this forum as often as i used to

but anyways as the title states. my front rim cracked.
so at first glance, i figured just about what anyone would figure...use the spare tire.

so with the recent upgrade to c32 amg brakes (like mikita)
the spare doesnt fit in the front. it will rub with the caliper

how perfect.
so i ordered a new rim and its on its way, should be in on monday
right now im stranded with no daily driver.
i was thinking about putting my rear rim in the front and using my spare in the rear. i do have spacers to push the rear rim out if needed.

do you think this is possible? specs for the rear rim is 18x9.5
i fear that i will run into severe rubbing issues. but wanted to see if its possible for a couple of days to get around town.

i decided to ask here instead of actually going out and doing it since you guys might shed some light before i made another post saying how idiotic the idea was.

so what do you think?

Does the spare fit in the front if you move the spacer there?

You can use the rear wheel on the front if it clears the caliper, I had to do that on another car in the past. DO NOT use your spare with the spacer! Never use aluminum spacers with a steel wheel.

I also ordered a new spare to clear my big brembo brakes (not here yet though), I'll shoot you the PN if you wish.

Rent a car.

Rear on front - spare on rear FWIW I would only drive in a real emergency.

i wouldnt be going too crazy on this. the spare worries me enough. just local roads and not going to go crazy in any corners.

although...

lol all jokes aside, thanks for the input guys. i am going to try the rear in the front and spare in rear later today to see if i can get the car moving for local errands. waiting on the rim and tires to come in on monday. then

i'll keep you guys posted!

whats the potential issue? Hard metal grinding the softer metal? Is what I was planing if I ever got a flat. But then I only need it until I get home, cause I have an extra full size rim.

For some reason I thought your 05 clk55 had a fix a flat kit rather than a spare. If you have time maybe there's a part number on your spare you could share. I looked into this 3 years ago and dealers around here had no clue.

It's supposed to, when I finally get it I'll post up pics and info on it.

Yeah, two different metals with different expansion rates and such. I had a full warning sheet regarding it hanging in my shop in Canada years ago in the wheel section. When I have some time I'll see if I can find it, it did a good job explaining things.

Moedy,

From what I understand the '05 55 coupe came with a collapsible spare wheel that fits into a smaller spare wheel well than the '04 (because of the dual exhaust), it has to be inflated when installed. However, the '05 55 cab (with the same 6 piston brakes as the coupe) did not have the dual exhaust nor the smaller wheel well (presumably), thus it should have come with a high offset spare that both clears the 6 piston brakes and fits the standard wheel well.

I got a hold of a '05 55 cab VIN and ordered (or at least, trying too, been working on this since January!) a spare based on that, could you do me a favor and send me the part number off your spare or PM me your VIN so I can check with MB and see if the spares are intact different?

Thanks, this could end up helping a lot of people with the BB conversions.

Bheng,

Thinking about this, the spare I have in my 500 will work on your car because you now have the same front calipers as mine had OEM. When I go to the shop to see my car tomorrow I'll get the part number off my spare and post it up for you, then you can source one out locally.

It comes with a little donut tire and an air pump to inflate it. The tire only fits in the spare compartment when it's deflated. I'll get the part number

Thats correct. The tire is tiny and limited for low speed. I plan on going to the dealer for my splash guard
so I'll get the part number for it. I remember checking the price for the crappy air pump it came with and that was over $100

Thanks pal, I appreciate it. I'll then cross reference the two numbers against each other and see if the cab does in fact come with a high offset 'regular' spare.

Awesome, I'll follow up with MB here yet again and see if they have the part number yet, then I'll cross reference the two. I'll also post up the PN of the spare I have (500/55) that clears the 4 pot AMG calipers for all the guys that did the C32 brake conversions.
