CLK500 5.0 mods (no supercharger)

hi gents!

what mods can be done to a 5.0 CLK500 to get it to 5.0 or 4.9 sec 0-60? Road & track says stock '04 CLK500 is 5.2 sec 0-60!

Is this possible with a CLK500?

thanks!!

Basic bolt on mods like a full exhaust with headers, E55K airbox & BMC filters and a good custom dyno tune really wake these cars up. IIRC I was putting down 277WHP with the above mentioned crap before I went all Kleemann on everyone.

All the power in the world is pointless though unless you can plant it, a LSD is really a must on these cars IMO, definately one of my favorite mods I've done so far.

thanks Kevwood!

that is good news. I can get a low mileage CLK500 or a high mileage CLK55. So, im open to my options of a low mileage CLK500.

How much did all those mods cost? (without the supercharger)

How large are stock brakes?
How is the transmission as compared to the CLK55?

Hmmm, what are the milages of the two cars? I would have taken a 55 over my 500 if I could have found one in decent shape but here they are all imported and beat on whereas the 500 I found was/is in extremely good shape.

The prices of things here (what I paid) are very expensive compared to back home so I don't think youd get an accurate idea of what it would cost you.

I think the brakes are 345mm OEM, can't remember though, I upgraded to a Brembo BBK.

the 55 has the 5 speed AMG trans, very tough, manual shifting mde and TCU flashable. The 500/550 ('05 and up) got the 7 speed, I'm really happy with it so far but unfortunately there is no true manual mode for shifting and the TCU can't be flashed. Not a big deal for 99% of the guys out there, I'd like it though because I actually race my car on road courses.

Correct, OEM are 345mm.
You could always get a new TCU and get the true manual shifting working

NO LONGER ACTIVE
FYI, according the MBZ, 0-60 on a MY2004 CLK500 coupe is 5.7 seconds (6.0 for the cabriolet). The CLK550 is 5.1 coupe, 5.2 cabriolet.

I've sent you an email about it few months ago
But then again that was for my 5-speed tranny.
I'll see if I can find the e-mail and send you the contact.

That's to get the paddle shifters working, I have functional paddle shifters. There isn't anyone who can do a manual mode conversion on the 7sp, I've checked with countless companies. In fact, I can't even get a TCU flash to improve shifting and remove the remaining torque limiters, it's a mechanical mod that MHP charges something like $4K USD for with their trans beef-up.

I still like the 7 speed trans, but the AMG 5 speed certainly give you better controll.

It will cost around 2k for the parts and for me it's not worth it because of the slushbox/slow gearbox.

Thanks for the info Mike!

I agree with you though, 2K for parts alone, then Labor and the pain finding a Dealership that would actually do the "Mod" (Due to the required "online" version coding, without their legal team complaining)! I could get a brand new set of 6/4 Pot ///AMG calipers/rotors for the same price!

I'm happy with my Eurocharged TCU tune for now but we'll see what happens in the future.

I agree. I'd rather get the 6/4 pot calipers for that price.
The problem I'm facing as you describe is to find a dealership that could do the online version coding.
Remember, most of the dealerships here are all a-holes
I was qouted 6-7hour labor for installing my Comand 2.0...
Clk63dk did it for me under 30min.
