As some of you may know, my 2004 CLK320 has reached 160K miles and it is still going great.
My friend is getting a 2012 C63 sedan and this gets me thinking. I have no experience with AMG and I am wondering if AMG is reliable. One of the reasons is because of the high performance, all the parts will have to work harder.

Surprisingly, many of the parts are the same. The differences are mostly in the AMG-built engines and suspension and transmission tweaks. Probably my biggest concern would be superchargers, simply because they tend to have a finite life of around 100K miles. On a C230 Kompressor, a new OEM supercharger can be had for around $1,200 and a rebuilt for much less. It's a fairly easy DIY swap. On the AMG, expect to at least 3x that.

AMG's are tough. But - they are not cars to buy used IMHO if you don't know their history. Some of them have been hammered at relatively low mileage & can cost big time to repair.
