CLK550 Stereo Upgrade?
hello, I just recentluy purchased a CLK550 and I would like to upgrade my sound system. Im not looking to get a sub because I need the space in my trunk... but I may eventually get one and fit it in there somehow. Anyways, I was thinking about just running an amp through my stock speakers. What do you guys think about that? I might be interested in repalcing all of my speakers with aftermarket ones then running an amp through those. I would just like to know what you guys would suggest doing... please let me know.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The OEM sub is in the back deck, you could replace it with an aftermarket free-air type. The OEM speakers are 2ohm so make sure you are using a 2ohm stable amp if you plan on using the OEM speakers. Personally, my opinion is that if your willing to add an aftermarket amp, spen a few more bucks and change the speakers as well, don't half-*** it

From my understanding is that you won't get any better sound with a new amp with stock speakers.
Like my good friend Kev says, don't half-*** it, upgrading to a new sound system is among the cheaper mods you can do to these cars(depending how much you are willing to spend).
Just my two pennies worth.

Thanks for the replies and info guys! What size is the oem sub? Do you recommend replacing it with a certain sub? Also, I was going to start looking on crutchfield to see my options but first I need to figure out weather or not I have the HK system or just the basic one. Is there anyway I can tell which sound system I have? One last thing is that I am still under warranty and do you think this would affect it in anyway?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Do the speaker grills on the rear deck say "Harmon Kardon"...? If so, that might be somewhat of an indication you have the HK system

Are the speakers actually 2ohm? I thought that was only the case with the Bose system (used as the premium audio system through MY2004). Stock uses 4ohm and I thought the HK (premium system used with MY2005+) did also. And I believe all the V8's (CLK500/550) came with the premium audio system as standard equipment, at least in US models.

I metered my center speaker during my audio build and it was 1.8ohm, thats why I ended up removing it and replacing it with another Kenwwod speaker. If I go by the shop today I'll meter out the old door speakers and OEM sub too.
