Parking brake/emergency brake

Anyone know if the sensor for the e-brake being on is a common failure item on the W209? My brake light is now staying on... but the parking brake is clearly not engaged - I can engage it, feel it slowing the car, release it and feel it release the brake hold, but the light stays on.

Not common. Sometimes switch failure on the e brake assembly & sometimes adjustment related.

I had it happen a few times all I had to do what get an adjustment as Glyn said. Before it was fixed all I did was pull it up all the way with my foot and the light would go out.

Do you get a beeping alert and a red "brake" message on the MFD, or is it just the indicator light illuminated? If it's just the light, then it's not the parking brake - it's low on brake fluid.

Definitely not just the brake light, the MFD annoys the crap out of me every few seconds with mega red "Release Emergency Brake" (or something similiar) message.

I am looking forward (not!) to driving it tomorrow and having it annoy me constantly until it gets to the dealer.

I will try pulling up the lever to see if it helps, but like I said the e-brake is definitely releasing, so it might just be some sort of microswitch/sensor which has gone bad.

OK, so that is the e-brake sensor. I would like to tell you that it's an easy fix, because really, it should be, but it's not. It is just a simple mechanical switch on the brake pedal mechanism, but the stupid thing is a real PITA! When I installed the Pioneer AVIC in the kid's C240, it wanted a connection to the parking brake to enable video only when stopped. Well, After trying to tap into the switch wiring, I dislodged the damned switch and it took hours to get it back in place because there is no room to work or even see what you are doing. After all that, I found out it's not a typical ground circuit like the Pioneer wanted, so I had to hack it to make it sense that the parking brake is always on (so much for that safety feature!).
