I'd figure $1500-$2k. That's about what most shops around here charge for full leather, and this job will probably not be any easier than that, plus adding the side panels.

Can the leather be dyed? Dimitri wants black-to-red... my 04 CLK500 has the ash gray interior. Anyone know what the chances are of dyeing the center perforated sections black? I know, I know... how cheep can I get! Thought just crossed my mind while cleaning her today.

I bought a used 2003 clk500 that comes with the two-tone leather (black with red inserts). I was always wondering if it came from factory. will take pics next time i step into the car which will be in the next 12hrs.

The 2 tone leather cars usually had the Designo package.

So, I need a bottle of that Designo dye, eh?

Jiew, think you'd be able to tell if it's factory? Any dye wearing through? Pants turning red?

Sorry, been a long day. Started with an alligator in the condo pool at 7 AM.

Yep, Designo came standard with two-tone, but I also seem to recall another option package that had two-tone. As for dying the leather, I'd not bother - just get it replaced by a good upholstery shop. Oh, and alligators like whole chickens. I used to have a sailboat I kept on the Gulf Coast area and the marina had a pet alligator. he was old and blind and would escape from his pen every week. The owner (also a game warden) would lure him back in with a raw whole chicken on a stick.

"A good upholstery shop"... those words being key. When I think of all the electronic stuff in the seats... ash gray ain't so bad after all. The seats are wonderful as they are; not showing any wear, comfortable... I'd be messing with a good thing.

The gator was a baby, about 3' long. Chicken could've taken him out.
Chicken on a stick. Sounds like carnival food.

Just a 3' gator? Oh, in that case, toss him a McNugget.

In other threads I see that the leather is dyed, but not sealed. That could mean it would take a darker dye. I wish somebody would try it.

Sheriff took the gator with him. I suspect there was gator-tail on someone's dinner plate.
