The new clk
What I’ve herd, even the W210 CLK was set on the old c-class wheelbase, yet the exterior and the interior were those of the E-class (go figure why they didn't just call it ELK or something).
Now looking at the W211 CLK, the rear resembles that of the W211 sedan taillights, while the front and the side resemble more of the new C-class look. Overall the exterior of the car looks to me like it should be a C-class coupe instead of the hatchback they make.
Overall I think that the old CLK had much more of a presence to it, and the new CLK though very nice looking just doesn't seem like a 60,000 dollar car.
These are just my $.02 and I was wondering what are your thoughts on this.
The one thing I do like on the new CLK is the gap between the front and rear windows, or the lack thereof. There basically is no longer that pillar between the two windows that gives me the worst blind spot of any car I've driven. I think they borrowed that styling from the CL. Other than that, I love the look of the W208's.
btw, MB based the CLK on the C-class platform because it's more cost efficient. The last CE-coupe which was based on the E-class sedan was not very successful because it was very expensive to produce.
At least the folks getting new CLKs don't have to wait inordinate amounts of time to get them as buyers of the previous model did. Whether that's due to higher production numbers for the new model or a reflection of consumer demand, I'm not sure.

YEAa, that pillarless window looks soooo nice when you put the windows down.
