Enough!!!

Is anyone else getting tired of CLK 208 owners bashing the new CLK? It feels like we have a bunch of BMW owners coming on to the MB forum. You've made your opinions known. Feel free to litter the CLK 208 forum with messages about how bad the new model will be. This forum should be about news, updates, pricing, pictures, and a discussion of what the new CLK will be like. No one has actually driven it. All we have are official photos. No one has touched it. I'd rather that this board have only one post a week, that contains some valuable info, such as check out the new pricing guide by MB, rather than 20 posts that all have same theme "The CLK 209 sucks"! Thanks for your time and let the flames begin.

Wow... what a car.... it looks just plain amazing in person. I have been collecting all kind of pictures of the new SL 500 / SL55 for the past few months. None of the pictures do justice to the car until you see it in person.

Now, having said that. As I walked around the car to the rear, it has the same rounded look and a triangle cut red lights which resembles SLK, C and the new E class, as well as posibly the new CLK 209.

It is definitely something to get used to, but the rear and side view of the new SL seems very similar to the new CLK. Slented slope back, rounded and cut corner lights...

I do have a new CLK 500 Cabriolet on order since last June, and I am number one on the list. Until then I am extremely happy with my current CLK Cab.

I think I am going to be very happy with new CLK 209 Cabriolets as well...

Just my 2 cents...

But again, this is the free world and opinions come in all forms. Intelligence allows you to cypher through and determine which are constructive and which are not.

Unfortunately we have to take the good, bad and ugly in one fell swoop, then purge the irrelevant to arrive at a conclusion.

CLK change

I think what some of the flack is due to, is that most true blue Mercedes-Benz buyers do not like change. The factory spoils us for 6 to 8 yrs with a body style that does not radically change, it only is perfected. We as consumers get use to that look and when the Master Engineers in Germany decide it time for a change
we do not adjust as rapidly as we should. Simply put, we are creatures of habit and that will be part of us until the end of time. So, let people have their opinions and when the time comes and they are enjoying their new body MBZ, which they were bashing some time ago, just remind them of the comments they made on how ugly their new car was when they first saw it in the magazine.

Why look back on this new generation of hybrid CLK, which should be called SL-E-C or SLEC.

I prefer to skip this generation; too much of a hodgepodge.

Pretty insecure of pdutta to have so much angst over other opinions on a subjective topic like car looks. But even as he attempts to quelch other opinions, I still see where he is coming from.

Not insecure. In a year and a half I will be crusing in a Black/Charcoal SL500. I really don't care what the new CLK 209 looks like. I am worried, however, about the future of the forum. I've seen the flames go back and forth. The C Class forum had a huge issue with this. There were some BMW and IS300 owners who refused to go away. The top 20-30 posts were flames that didn't have one C Class owner in it. These forums are a blessing for MB owners. They deliver tons of useful information that would otherwise be very hard to get. It seemed to me that anyone who posted anything about the new CLK was automatically rebuffed by a CLK208 owner about how bad the car looks. As I said before I expect that behavior from BMW trolls, not respected CLK 208 posters. And everyone does have his/her right to their opinion and they have a right to post it. But honestly, do you think it's good for the forum for every post to be nothing but bashing of the design, power, seats, air vents, etc, without anyone even having sat in the car, let alone driven it?

Don't brag about cruising in a car that you don't even have yet, you only make yourself look stupid. As for worrying about the future of the forum, you must have no life to worry about something like that.

pdutta2000:
There are not many trained/educated & practicing industrial designers on this forum, hence everybody is a designer here.

I disagree with you on all points. Number 1: it's a source of pride for me that I have worked hard enough to earn the right to buy an SL. Maybe I'm premature in my joy, but definitely not stupid. Stupid would be bragging about a car that I have no intention of buying or could never afford. Number 2, I mentioned in my post that there is a lot of valuable information on this forum. I do care what happens to it. I think most of the members care, because they too trade some great inside info on each and every car here. I'm worried about members like you that don't care. Why wouldn't you care? You took the time to join the forum. Why would you join a forum that you didn't care about? If you don't care whether anyone answers your questions or not, or don't care about any of the information or ideas that are expressed on this forum; Why would you join? That seems like a waste of time to me.
