Getting my rims chromed

Whats up guys -

I *finally* got my windows tinted today. I think it really makes a big difference and I'm looking for other ways to improve my car's looks. I'm heavily considering chrome headlight rings, but the natural next step is the rims.

I happen to like the stock AMG rims a lot and dont think I'm ready to do a full upgrade/replacement, so I was wondering if anybody knew anything about getting rims chromed. I saw my rims on an new black S-class in chrome and they looked soooo hot. How much would it cost to get the 4 rims chromed? Where would I go for something like this? A friend told me I'd have to have them shipped to California, any help on the issue would be appreciated.

Your car is silver right? i don't think chrome looks too good on silver, especially on a sporty wheel like the AMG rims.. I would look to get a set of new rims to change the look of your car. Like the new carlsson 1/16.

I disagree. I think the chrome adds a better look then stock for sure! All the chrome does is add a more flashy look, which in turn attracts more attention.

Copy and paste that link below to view my silver/chrome CLK.

Not many shops can do a good chrome job on AMG wheels because of their finish. I agree with Tezta, chrome on silver doesnt have the optimum effect. 17" already look too small on a W209, and if you chrome it, I think it will look even smaller.

I think you guys may be right about chrome 17's looking too small, but I dont think chrome would look bad on a tinted silver 209..

I saw another thread where Kaiser posted a picture of his black 209 with Lowenhart LD1 rims and I was really floored.

Here is the price list for ones I'd consider:

8.0x19 - $1020 (Chrome)
8.5x19 - $1040 (Chrome)
9.0x19 - $1060 (Chrome)
9.5x19 - $1080 (Chrome)
10x19 - $1110 (Chrome)

Being that I'm really in the dark when it comes to this stuff, what does that first number mean (8-10)? Does the 209 have a standard size that I should use?

And an even stupider question, that's the price for all 4 rims, right?

first number is width of the rim in inches, price is per rim, lowenharts are fairly pricey.

LOL - price for all four huh?

I think you'd need 8.5s in the front and either 9.5 or 10s in the back. I'd go with the 10s.

Chromes don't always look the best on any color Benz or other car. Anybody ever see many white JDM style rims on Benzos?

If you like Lowenhart wheels, please check out this site and tell me if there is anything you like there: www.work-wheels.co.jp This is the company that makes Lowenhart wheels in Japan. They are less expensive than Lowenharts. I am able to bring in most of the wheels there. They have custom fitment and custom finish.

Depending on the offsets of the wheel, normally you should get 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 or 19x8.5 or 19x9.5, as "Frisco" said, you can get 18x10 or 19x10 for the rear.

For a set of Lowenhart 19" chrome, expect to pay around USD5000+ with tires.
