winters with 03 CLK 320

traded in land rover discovery for a new CLK 320. living in Toronto can't imagine what the winter holds for us with the MB (previously a dedicated SUV owner). Any thoughts would be helpful:

1. I ordered mine with the appearance pack (low profile) - when should I be replacing these with winter rubbers - oct / nov?

2. how much does this exercise cost ?

3. do the winter tires also need to be staggered?

also read a bit about the adaptive tranny - learns the driver's habits - where can one find more information? I plan to drive mine like a sports car (not a touring car) - should I be driving a certain way from the beginning?
