2004 CLK500 Purchase

About to purchase a 2004 CLK500 from the Sacramento MB dealer next week. I did hear that there may be a 7 speed automatic coming in the very near future. Is this rumor true? Is so, when?

Does anyone from Northern California have any advice on this purchase. There is zero competition up here for MB and I thought if I went to L.A. or Bay area I might get a better deal.

Been a 18 year BMW owner (7 cars) and am switching to MB due to poor quality on the bimmer and improved performance on the CLK class product.

Any advice would be appreciated...

There seem to be a lot of minor and major reliability problems being experienced by E-Class owners. You may want to read their comments in the E forum. I don't know if the CLK is having as many problems, if any, though. People have been saying that MB reliability has been declining.

Personally, I'm going to wait until February to buy an 04 CLK500 just in case they make minor mid-year changes or additions. There are a few options that the E-Class has which the CLK-Class doesn't. I'm hoping that some will eventually trickle their way down in the near future like the Drive Dynamic seats, LED brake lights, Solar Panel, Airmatic Suspension, Tire pressure monitoring, etc.

Regarding the 7-speed auto, I would think the E would get it first with the CLK following suit a year or two later. This is just my speculation though, so someone else would probably have a more definitive answer.

I too am a former BMW owner (1999 3 series) and have made the switch to MB due to the poor quality of the BMW and poor dealer service. We just got our 2004 CLK, and hope to have a better experience.

Just a note. I bought a new CLK 500 from Smythe in SJ, good
people. Got a good deal, and the car is great (so far,3000 miles). This weekend will be cruising with the Pebble Beach
Concours/Monterey Historic Car crowd.

I didn't notice BMW is declining in reliability or poor service. I always have better services in BMW more to MB.

My friend's 2003 X5 was just towed a few days ago. Car wouldn't start at all. Dealer said "computer failure".
