auto level hid acting up
I have the stock HID headlights with auto leveling feature. Once in a while when I start my car the headlights stay pointed in the downward most position hence not illuminating the road properly. I then have to restart the car to correct this issue and the lights return to normal position. Any ideas what I can do to correct this? Both of my headlights do the same thing. I usually leave the lights in auto position.

I used to have this intermittent problem. I just adjusted them so they aimed a bit higher. Of course when not a problem they ended up pointing a bit too high....but did what I had to do. I ended up replacing both headlights, but more for cosmetic reasons. Some folks mentioned that the level sensor can fail or need repositioning so have that checked too. Wasn't the issue for me.

Since they aren't moving when you start up, I would say it's not a problem with the vehicle axel position sensors, but instead a problem with the headlights themselves. But, it's odd that both sides would fail at the same time (or is that the case?) One thing you could do is disconnect the level sensors (probably easiest to do on the front anti-sway bar) then use the adjuster to put the lights where you want them.

The auto-level sensor are attached to the front anti-sway bar, and the rear anti-sway bar end links. The manual headlight adjusters are the screws on the headlight assembly - just as with most any car.

Disconnect front & rear sensors at the end of lever pin. Cycle them through full range with lights on & then reconnect. Should reset parameters.
