Pix of my 2004 CLK 500 Designo Mocha Black "Special Edition"

Here you go Noah M. and others that asked... just picked up my mocha black beauty, the new "Saks Fifth Avenue" Special Edition CLK 500 Cabrio in Designo Mocha Black with Stone Nappa Leather, Alcantara accents and Ash Wood trim.

Below you'll find copies of the window sticker, some promotional info the dealer had, and some of my first pictures after delivery.

Note the "Ash Wood" trim in dash, along doors, steering wheel, and on glove box. Also note shifter with aluminum and ash handle. "Designo" is etched lightly in the aluminum part.

From most angles Mocha Black looks indistinguishable from Black Opal, as in this picture.

This picture came out a bit strange... it appears sorta purple, but it doesn't look that way live. VERY similar to Black Opal...

Note that they even extended the Ash wood inserts to the rear seats side panels.

This picture and picture #7 below may give the best impression of the color. It proved hard to capture the "chocolate" brown tint that only appears at certain angles in direct sunlight.

Wow!!! I'm afraid you will be very busy keeping your interior clean.

When you look at the color under the sun, does it look blue or brown??? I've never seen a Mocha Black before.

I'm sorry, I thought you're attaching the pics on the same post. Too desparate to see your car!!!!!

Yes, I'm afraid you're right... it's gonna be work, but worth it!

When you look at the color under the sun, does it look blue or brown??? I've never seen a Mocha Black before.
There's no blue in it at all, though looking at my posts it does appear to have come out sorta "purple". In real life it looks very close to Black Opal with just the TINIEST hint of deep deep brown, like dark chocolate... but you only get that shade with the sun hitting it just right.

I'm sorry, I thought you're attaching the pics on the same post. Too desparate to see your car!!!!!
No problem! That's what I was like at the dealership this morning when it was being detailed! :p

WHOO HOO!! That will really look great. Can't wait... but I'm a bit worried that they won't yet have one in this rare color?

Thanks Harris,

Window Sticker

Here's the window sticker from the car for those who asked to see the specs and prices...

It's weird, they bundled ALL the extra stuff into a "Launch Edition" item rather than the usual listing of each option with prices. Probably to keep people from realizing just how ridiculously expensive those wood inserts and the special leather are costing!

Black opal is comparable to navy blue. I believe the Capri blue has more of a purple hue to it.

Wood...?

Very nice

Bit confused about your wood though. Looks like you have WALNUT, not ASH. See the photo below from the usa site. Perhaps its just the lighting.

Anyone have more photos of the light cream (STONE/SAND) with the light wood?

Cheers

the wood can appear very dark or very light, it's very dependent on the light. here's a picture that shows it in bright sunlight where it looks much lighter (look at wood near rear seats).

it's definitely ash. there's a difference in grain between ash and walnut that i saw when checking out an E-class. Ash is slightly lighter with different grain pattern.

the photo you sent does look lighter... i think it's lighting on that photo that's off a bit.

That looks very night, do you have a close up of the wood on direct sunlight?

Mmmmm

I can see its not really as dark as WALNUT (I used to have that in my previous CLK500).

Having seen several Euro CLKs with the ash, would you agree that in real life the wood looks more like the usa web site picture than the ones you posted? If that makes sense...?

It does look really good, I think I may go for Obsidian/Stone (sand as we call it) with Brown Ash. I'm tempted to go for either tansanite or green/black too - any pictures with the stone interior. Its a shame the official shots rarely feature these (best) combos.

Does the interior keep clean OK?
