My 2004 CLK328 now has over 170k miles. The engine mounts and transmission mount are still originals. Should I change them?

I followed the instructions (somewhere in this forum) to check the engine mounts and they are fine. Should I change them just the sake of age and high mileage?

that is really a $600 question. you planning to put another 100k on it?
most would probably say if it ain't broke....

even if your motor mounts are sound I would wager that the tranny mount is shot- but that one is cheap and an easy r/r

In autohausaz, engine mount is Lemfoedor OEM. It's $94, not sure if this price is for one of two.
Then for transmission mount, it's URO for $16.

I called the local dealership, engine mounts are $191 per set and tranny mount is $75. If I can get 15% off, I may get them there. I do prefer genuine MB parts.

I think the engine mounts, must not be perfect shape after 172k miles.

If the engine does not rear up when you accelerate the car in drive against the brakes & you have no vibration from the tranny mount when driving diagonally across a ditch or similar they are still OK. The tranny mount suffers from hard driving & endless foot flat acceleration from a standstill. If you drive sensibly they could all still be OK.

Preventative maintenance is a good thing but I would not change them until they show symptoms of failure & you can feel some vibration in the car. I've known mounts go a lot further than 170K miles with the M112/722.6 setup. That said a new set of mounts can make the car feel like new if they have deteriorated.

Thanks. What do you mean by drive diagonally across a path?

Did anyone try the transmission mount and engine mounts from Autohausaz?

So that's why my motor mounts only last 25K miles!

If you drive across a ditch diagonally that tries to twist the car's frame & causes large & uneven suspension deflection. Like driving into a steep driveway that is above road level diagonally.
