Help with mirrors and windscreen

Hi all, I have had my CLK55 for a week or two now and I am still going through finding things that might need attention. Unfortunately I can't help but notice asymmetry and things which are not as they should be. I noticed my two mirrors are different. One has an inside plastic shroud around the outside of the reflective mirror part. It looks kind of stupid, like a side mirror inside the side mirror. Should this be there?

Also the arrows mark a line where the color of the mirror is different above and below. Is there a way to fix this? Above the line seems normal, below looks quite yellow. Here is the other one for comparison. No plastic strip around the outside and the mirror is much more "clear" and "white" rather than the yellow hue.

Should the rear windscreen have some strips around the outside? You can see it is simply the windscreen glued down. It doesn't leak, I am just wondering. My C32 had weather strips around the outside.

Does anyone know if MB stocks the small switches on the sides of the front seats for adjusting the lumbar support etc? Thanks for the help.

I solved the mirror problem, there seem to be heaps of them on ebay for around $20 and some for around $140. I guess I will get a new left and right for $20 each.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
The difference in the side mirrors is that the passenger side is just plain glass, but the driver's side uses an internal LCD panel to activate its auto-dimming feature. That's why it has the plastic trim around it as it is used to hold the glass and LCD panel sandwiched together. That line you see is the result of a broken LCD panel, so I assume your auto-dim feature is now not working. A new auto-dimming mirror glass is expensive - hundred of dollars (US). Many people will forgo that feature and just replace it with a standard glass for much less money.

Your rear glass is definitely missing some trim. It won't affect anything but appearance (water sealing is accomplished by the urethane under the glass, holding it to the frame).

If you just need to button caps for the seat lumbar adjuster, I believe those are available separately from the entire assembly. There was a thread about it in the last week or so - either here or the Benzworld forum.

yup your driver side mirror auto dim has malfunctioned and probably leaked (mine leaked on the bottom onto the inside of the mirror housing as there is a stain). i replaced mine with a non auto dim one as the auto dim ones are really expensive and i didn't really need it since i tinted my windows

Thank you both for the help. I didn't realize this feature even existed. The dimming definitely does not work on the mirror. I ordered 2 new ones so I am guaranteed they will be the same. 33 pounds from the UK.

I finally managed to get them both off. For anyone else doing it, tilt them all the way down, there is a little metal wire clip on top which you need to push off entirely. Getting the mirror off is difficult, I ended up simply pulling it outwards while cringing to get it out of the clips, I was worried I was going to break something but it went fine.

I will leave the rear window, it looks perfectly fine since I couldn't even work out if it was supposed to be like that. I will see how much the trim is just for interest, it might not be hundreds of dollars.

Yes just the button caps for the switches. Thank you I found the thread on benz world. This is the link for anyone else http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w209...er-lumbar.html and the part number from there is Part number is A 1698700310. I will send my local parts department an email and see what they can do, they tend to be less than helpful normally.

All sorted. They were $15 each!! Thats about US$11 but it would have been the same or slightly more to order them from the US and pay postage, exchange rate etc. At least this was easy. They push down quite hard to clip in, I am surprised they ever came off. In fact I got an extra one to replace one where the chrome plastic had a chip, it was very difficult to get off.

Mmmm

I can recommend this seller http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=161043734505 Now to wait for the chome lug bolts to arrive to finish it off.

Ebay, my stock bolts are M12x1.5 with a 40mm shank with ball seat (not CONE for anyone reading this in the future). The seller talks them up as being grade 10.9, heat treated and chrome plated a few times so hopefully they will last ok. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=230999728288

they can't be any worse than the galvanized OEMs, that's for sure!
