Directional Button on 2005 COMAND for CLK Broken?

I have a 2005 CLK320, recently the direction changing button/switch for the COMAND system broke off, and now that I have put it back on, it doesn't press down correctly. This is the "OK" button on the bottom right. All the directions work fine, but it does not respond when I press it down (it isn't stuck, it does press down, it just doesn't affect the system). Is it possible to replace just this button, and if so, where could I find one? Or do I need to replace my entire COMAND system?

Thanks for any help.

Officially, the COMAN unit has no serviceable parts - it is one unit/part number. However, I have heard of some electronics shops that do this sort of work. I don't know of any offhand, but I had once looked for this and found a few doing web searches. My guess is the cost is going to be high. In fact, you might end up better off buying a used replacement unit, or even "upgrading" to an aftermarket system.

Whoever decided to put a knob on these C/CLK/ML comand units was out of their mind i think my 04 E320 had just regular buttons for the arrows and the ok. This knob is just way to annoying to operate and I'm always worried about someone breaking it off

Yes, I agree the joystick is annoying, but it's actually easier to find blindly while keeping your eyes on the road. I am guessing that's the reason for the switch from flat buttons. Of course now, they use the "mouse wheel" on the center console, that at first seems really annoying, but after a few hours, it becomes second nature and again, can be easily manipulated with your eye on the road.

So there is really no way to replace just the button? It sucks because the directions still work, I just cant press the "OK" to select letters for the nav. I think I will just upgrade to an aftermarket unit, even labor on fixing the button would be like $100 or $200 nevermind what I pay for the part. I can get a nice Jensen system with nav and install for $600. My small town I live in in the summer doesn't actually show up on the mercedes maps (even updated), so I was considering it anyway. Maybe the electronics store will give me a free install since they broke it off loading a home theater system into my car...

If you decide to go aftermarket, there are a few things to know. First of all, you have the MY2005 facelift interior, so the radio bracket for the W203 is not interchangeable to the W209. The W209 center stack is just slightly more narrow. Also, there is no analog audio wiring in the dash - the factory system uses the fiber optic ring to send audio to the amp in the trunk. You will need to run your own wire to the trunk, then tie into the analog speaker wiring on the output of the amp. Finally, there is no wiring behind the radio for switch 12v and illumination, but these can easily be picked up from the ashtray.

The US Comand made by Siemens has this joystick:

The Euro/Global Comand made by Becker has this controller.

Somebody in the Siemens empire must be able to provide a spare part.
