Oh, it definitely helps. That's why all RWD race cars have larger rear tires, as well as most, if not all, powerful RWD road cars.

So then how will this affect the practice of tire rotation? I would have to buy two different sets of Z-rated tires. If I wanted to fit with just one size Z-rated tires, I would have to change the wheels then?

Yes, but instead of ruining the handling balance of the car, you should keep the staggered sizing. No rotating; just replace.
