Soo I'm still contemplating on a delete... Might be a pain in the *** to deal with my state inspections every year. Anyone know what the part # is for the magnaflow muffler? Does it matter if I get a centered/centered one? Centered/offset? Offset/offset?

Drone is a "humming" sound heard in the cabin due to exhaust components (generally the exhaust tubing) oscillating at it's resonant frequency. It is most annoying because it is constant (unlike general road and wind noise). For most cars, the drone happens at 1800-2000 rpm and at 2400-2600 rpm.

The higher range isn't as noticeable as you would just be passing through that rpm range (spirited driving). The 1800-2000 rpm is in the highway cruising range and it is the range where shifts will occur. This is why it is annoying. OEMs generally use thicker walled tubing and mufler/s and resonators to combat drone.

As long as you don't touch your catalytic converters, you'll pass inspection. It's the best bang for buck exhaust mod, just do it lol

I'd rather get a muffler delete than a magnaflow muffler BTW

I keep getting mixed responses from people saying muffler deletes are illegal .. Maybe it varies by state? But I definitely agree, it's a bargain mod hah.. Ok, I think I'll just go for it. Time to go find a place that won't rip me off to get it done lol

It's fine just do it! You'll pass smog with anything unless you touch your cats and a muffler is not a pollution controller, it's just a sound restrictor, so you're fine!

Deletion of the muffler legality may be related more to NOISE laws than Emission laws. You can do a web search to find laws on noise pollution for your local area. I found the following for the state of PA.

§ 157.11. Vehicular noise limits.
(a) Prohibition. No person shall operate either a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles of a type subject to registration at any time or under any condition of grade, load, acceleration or deceleration in such a manner as to exceed the following noise limit for the category of motor vehicle within the speed limits specified in Table 1.
TABLE 1
Maximum Permissible Sound Level Readings (decibel (A))
Highway operations test

soft site 35mph and >35 mph hard site 35mph and > 35mph

(1) Any motor vehicle with a manufacturers gross vehicle weight rating of 6,000 pounds or more and any combination of vehicles towed by such motor vehicle. 86 90 88 92
(2) Any motorcycle other than a motor-driven cycle.
82 86 84 88
3) Any other motor vehicle and any combination of vehicles towed by such motor vehicles.
76 82 78 84

I don't know the meaning of soft or hard site..............

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Of course these noise ordinances have to exclude "factory equipment" - otherwise Mustang GT owners would be ticketed left and right. Those things with factory exhaust systems are louder than a CLK500 with no muffler.
