Greetings all - I have recently lost the metal key for my 1999 W208 Cabriolet. My local dealer (only one in Trinidad & Tobago) where the vehicle was originally purchased new has told me that replacement keys are no longer available from MB (cost almost $100 US) but they will sell me a new IR/Key assembly for $500 US. Can anyone out there help me -

Do you have a spare key? If so, you can buy a "blank" blade on eBay and have a specialty locksmith cut it to match your existing key. If you don't have a spare - YOU NEED ONE! If you lose or damage your key, you will be dead int he water! If you do order an uncut key, make sure it's the correct style as there have been three different version. The one you want will look like this:

Rudeney - thanks for the quick reply.. unfortunately there are no qualified locksmiths in Trinidad & Tobago - my only option is a MB direct replacement... since I cannot contact MB global I don't know if the dealers response was true, or they just want to sell a complete key assembly, not just the metal emergency key insert...
p.s. my apologies to all - it appears I hit the wrong forum site.. should have been W208, not W209
