Car still won't start!!! Help!!

After 3 days I finally got out the Crankshaft Posotion Sensor & the car still will not turn on!

About a month ago I was driving along and then went to my brothers birthday party. About 5 hours later I get back in the car to leave. I drive 4 miles to my shop, and get out for 5 minutes to get my laptop. I get back in the car and when I try to start the car, I cannot get it started. I had to get it towed home.

Everyone said its the crankshaft position sensor & I replaced mine dead on, my trusted mechanic gave it to me. What could be wrong? I desperately want this car working again! I have no errors or check engine lights on the dash.

I put the key into ignition, click one, click two, click to ignite engine and it cranks and all dash lights turn off but does not actually turn on... then all the dash lights come back on again.

I had a similar issue where my E320 would not start, then started and died while driving; then started after sitting, then would not start...you know the story!
It was the the crankshaft position sensor. I had it replaced and have had no problems at all.
Now you say that you replaced your dead on, and that your trusted mechanic gave it to you. I have some guesses:
The crankshaft position sensor could be bad, or
the crankshaft position sensor could be installed wrong, or
it might be something else like a battery/wiring issue since your dash lights are flashing off an on.
Good Luck!

do you have gas in the tank? :P

Or go to a place with star diagnosis and get the fault codes read out, and myabe check the values on various sensors on the engine suchs as cranck speed, cam sensor etc..

The car won't start and the MIL is not illuminated, the it's either a bad CPS, lack of fuel supply (empty tank or a problem with the pump), or a bad ECU.

ECU? & I have half a tank...

What're the more probable means? I don't have the $ to get it towed 14 miles to my Indy.

Maybe you have half full tank, but is any of it getting to the engine? Do you have pressure in the fuel rail? Check by pushing the pin on the valve on the rail and see if fuel is dripping out or sprayed out.

no offence, but if you can afford to get the car towed, maybe you shouldnt own a mercedes?

Maybe your Indy did something wrong ? Does he have the right equipment to check for the codes ? I have a Indy also and there are just something's I would not let him check. Bring it to a dealer maybe and have them do a prelim check and see where you are at with it.

ECU = Engine control unit, i.e. "the engine computer". Fuel delivery problems could be caused by a bad fuel pump, bad pump relay, bad fuse, or a clogged or kinked fuel line (not just an empty tank).

Guess I get to spend my 20th birthday tomorrow looking at all the lines. Haha.

I really hope it's not the computer >.>

& to member phingoc: 1) tow companies don't charge more to tow a Mercedes than any other car needing a flatbed. 2) you're ignorant & I can afford both of my Mercedes just fine... even at 19 years old... 3) I have a lot more things to budget for than a tow seeing as how I have bone cancer.

Now the car will not crank. I put the key in, turn it and nothing. It's as if it is in position 2 permanently (until I remove the key of course)

Sounds like you have blown fuse 52. Check start enable fuses 31, 52, 57. Make sure 52 is 20amp. Benz uprated it from 15 to 20amp.

Check fuel pressure at the front rail Schrader valve. s/b > 3.8 bar or 55 psi while cranking.

^ second this. I had your problem... changed the cps, then the sparks... then it turned out to be the fuel pump LOL

i only laugh cuz i had to get it towed 100 miles to the dealership for the fuel pump replacement.
