Removing Night Shades tint

The tinted tails I bought are just too dark so I want to remove the tint and respray. There are a number of videos online about how to remove Night Shades and no two seem to agree. Mineral spirits, acetone, Goo Gone...I tried them all. Of course, I can't be sure mine were even treated with Night Shades (bought used from BadBlack who got them from Wes) but so far only StripEEz is budging the black, and it's slow and messy going.

Too dark? Just because a few people made comments? Where's your backbone! j/k. Wish I could help.
Watch those solvents. That light is plastic, isn't it?
I don't know what Night Shades are/is, but if it's a film, won't ammonia attack it?
Gasoline. Gasoline, and a match. That should do SOMEthing.
Man, I'm full of it tonight.

You ARE in rare form tonight Jerry! Gasoline (without the match) was another YouTube tip, BTW. I thought I wanted black-out but I think a little contrast looks better. And since I'm gonna spray them again I don't care if the solvents rough them up (makes me glad I didn't spray my original tails!)

Rough them up, eh? I'm... thinkin'... more like MELT.
I thought it was just cats that got sprayed.

Seriously, (pppffftt haaaaha) is it a film? On the outside? Put on like heat-shrink? Will more heat make it deform?
Or a paint? Water-based paint remover.
Wanna rough it up? Sand blasting will remove anything, AND rough it up. Ask me how I know.
Anyway, good luck! And please update... Informed readers want to know.
Someday tell us about those 45 'spiders' and your name.

definitely paint; I thought mineral spirits or Goo Gone/Goof Off would work; when they didn't, I just grabbed the StripEEz out of the garage and applied it with some fine steel wool. Paint still took some work to come off.

I'll bite: is it something that should be in my "dumbest thing you've ever done in your Benz" thread?

former club DJ, and I was 45 when I joined MBWorld, nearly 10 years ago!

Not on the Benz, luckily. About 40-some years ago, R&D lab where I was working had a handy portable sandblaster. My old Chevy truck had rusty wheels. So, without taking them off, I started 'blasting'. With the hood on my head, I couldn't see what was also happening to the tires. Suffice it to say, paint would have stuck very well to the rubber. Ever seen suede tires? Oh, and the sand also got into places it wasn't needed, like brakes.

"Spinnin' the hits!" "Stacks of wax to watch!" So, when you left, the spiders came with you. Always handy... never know when you'll need one.

in '94, as my club career was waning, I took a job selling cellular phones for Verizon Wireless's predecessor at a call center, and I had one of those "spiders" among the decorations on my cube walls. About 35 at the time, I soon realized that they really are a generational thing, completely unrecognized by 25-ish coworkers. When I turned 45 I got one tattooed on my shoulder....have since made it the symbol of my website.
