CLK350 Rattle/Flapping noise at low RPM ~ EECS/purge system noise

Could it have anything to do with me cutting the plastic pin connector and wiring each pin individually? I'm assuming the red and brown wires are power supply for the delivery unit..
I'm gonna test the relay today to make sure it's still working... Something tells me it is not the problem.

First off I would like to say thanks to everyone who helped on this forum! Especially you Glyn.
Update: I got my car running yesterday. My problem was my makeshift connector pins, they were coming in contact with eachother and blowing fuse 4
The relay was fine. I unplugged the black and blue wires for level indication which freed up some space and the car started but I no longer have fuel level indication
I purchased a new pump from the dealer today ($400) and I'll be installing it tonight. Unfortunately my tuition was $400 but it doesn't compare to the immerse knowledge gained!
Through this ordeal I also noticed the vibration didn't seem to originate from the fuel delivery but something in that area (I held down all the parts and lines and still was getting vibration. I'm kindof back to square one on that lol

What is the purpose for this fuel delivery unit bracket? I don't remember seeing one on my unit, but the parts dealer says that it is required for installation.

I don't know what that bracket does. It's not shown in the WIS method. Benz has redesigned the pump/sender unit a number of times & maybe it is required to fit the latest design. These units are used across a number of vehicles in the range. RMeuropean is usually very good with their advice.

We might just have solved your problem!
A member on the W203 forum pointed this out. I checked with one of my buddies at MBSA & they confirm that all SA production had these which is why we never hear complaints of noise from the rear.
Benz fits a damper to the purge line leading to the carbon canister to damp out this noise.
Part Name/Part Number
1 Restrictor A203 476 03 32 (listed in the EPC as 35 A 203 476 03 32 VALVE REGENERATION LINE 001) no picture.
1 Clamp A005 997 19 90
W203 location of fitment at rear.
I have to give the SA plant that if they find an issue they are usually on it like a rash. They developed the squeak & rattle kit for the early W203's as well.

Interesting. I would go looking for one of these to retrofit on my CLK, but honestly, I only hear it when (1) top is up, (2) radio is off or very low volume and (3) I am slowing to stop. Since I drive with the top down about 75% of the time, and have the radio at reasonable volume 85% of the time, and have my foot on the accelerator 5x more than on the brake, well, it's not a big deal.

Yes ~ it apparently effects some cars more than others. mecca's car seems one of those noisy ones. MBSA decided to fit it to all production & be done with it.
My Benz buddy says it's a cheap part.

Good day Gents!
I've been seriously tied up at the office the last month! I barely even have a chance to think about my car....
Thanks for your update, but pls forgive my ignorance... how can i access the point in the line as shown in your picture? also its really difficult for me to grasp the whole picture as the parts websites dont show any images... (that would help a lot as I am very visual)
Is the car in the picture configured the same as mine, and am I looking behind the seat, or the undercarriage?
Side note: How in the world do i rate you gurus? it would be nice to give 5 stars
Oh by the way.. Glyn do you know much about SASOL? I work for an engineering/construction company and they are our client..

It's in the RHS rear wheel arch under the fender shroud. More info in the Wiki. W203 & W209 are basically the same chassis.
I know Sasol well. While my career was with a US Supermajor oilco we have many JV's with Sasol & I hold a nice chunk of Sasol stock that has performed very well. Their GTL technology is quite revolutionary.

I figured you would be familiar with sasol, the project is split 2 ways so GTL is being handled by a different engineering contractor, we are handling chemicals. Anyways thanks as always.
I'm going to assume that there is no rating system, I'm not very familiar with forums.. How do you build your member status? Purely by posts?

Gurus & Moderators are elected by staff. Otherwise the member system is on number of posts. If I was not a moderator I would be considered "Out of Control" LOL.

I've noticed this intermittent ticking and I think from what I read it is the Purge control valve. What do you guys think? I found a video of my exact symptoms:
Should getting that purge control valve silence the tick?

Hi fellas, my CLS 2011 model W218 UK model, has similar problem - tapping noise at rear seat. Bought it from import dealer in Aug '13. Been changed fuel pump and purge valve solenoid (not the valve) but all not to any help. The tapping is still there.

Hey Glynn. I stumbled upon this thread here and my problem sounds like this member's issue however mine doesn't come from behind me. W209 CLK55. I hear the noise from the lower left by the passenger side but its only when the car is coming to a hault or when I increase speed from stationary position to about maybe 50km/h not sure though. I inspected this little guy (EECS valve, didn't see the name right ) last night on idle and it isn't ticking like mad. I had to be like 5cm away from it to actually hear it ticking.
I am however of the belief that maybe my flex plates are making this noise but my drive has no shudder nor does the tranny have any hard gear changes so I am unaware of the solution or the faulty component if any at this stage. But from the member's video, like I said same sound I hear but from the lower left of the passenger sounds more like its toward the dashboard hence I assume it be the flex plates from under the car? Did they ever make this noise though? The car has 230 XXXkm on it.
Your response would be highly appreciated Glynn or anyone else who may have experienced this

just 1 fuel pump?
This is the purge system & fuel system. This is for M112 V6. M272 is the same. The only thing that changed on newer cars was that the fuel filter moved from outside the tank to inside the LHS sender unit.
I almost wonder whether the purge system is transmitting that noise to the rear. These cars use a rotary fuel pump not a diaphragm unit.

so the question is is there an other fuel pump apart from the one inside the tank?
