ANOTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUE...

I need advice / assistance.
If this has been covered please feel free to point me to the appropriate thread.

CAR: 2002 CLK320 (c209) - 5Speed Tiptronic.

ISSUE: Drove the car the other day. I was entering the on-ramp of a motorway/freeway using the tiptronic. Shifted from 2nd to 3rd tried to engage 4th but it didn't...Car was stuck in 3rd and wouldn't shift, so i pulled up, put it in P, then back to D where i tried to shift it again in tiptronic mode at a stand-still. No success.
Back into P, turned off the car and took the key out.
Waited 30secs turned it back on and all was ok on my 30min drive using Auto and Tiptronic mode (4th & 5th only).
2 days later, driving non vigorously with the car in Auto mode from a Stop sign.
1st, 2nd, 3rd (a bit rough) accelerated to find the car in Neutral.
Again pulled up, into P, then drove it and no issue.
It is shifting rougher than normal.

Can anyone assist...?
Much appreciate it.

Hiya,
Complete newbie here, but I've been reading a bit for the last few weeks.

I guess the first question would be about your car's mileage and transmission service history. Could you give some details?

DC,

There is a lot of weirdness around the connector plates on transmission and limp mode/erratic shifts. You might want to search on TCU, Connector plate, shift problems, etc.

A good short thread with some very competent contributors is at:

Good luck. I am too new to the MB world to provide much beyond moral support.

Hook up an OBDII scanner and pull the codes and let us know or take it to a shop which can do that.

It could be the conductor plate which is a common problem with the 722.6 transmission.

You won't pull tranny codes with an OBDII scanner.

From my humble readings of various forums, P0715 has been a fair indication that the conductor plate needs changing.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Pull codes - and use a tool capable of scanning the TCU. It may be worth paying the dealer for an SDS scan.

Right-o!

Conductor plate, not connector as I said. Conductor plate.

Again, good luck with this.

I was having horrible symptoms with my 2004 CLk 500, but not exactly like yours. Mine would be fine in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, but then when it would sift to 4th, it would seem like it slipped into neutral and then try to shift back--- grind--- and the tires would lock up as if I were braking.

I took it to my mercedes-only indy shop where they reset the code and my car ran perfect for another 3,000 miles--- but then it happened again out of random... so I had to drive the car in manual up to 3rd gear only around town. No freeways allowed.

I wish I could update you on it, but now the car will not even start at all... you can read about that here though: https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...ont-start.html
