convertible top problem

we had to close the top on our 2004 clk500 manually and followed the instruction until the part when you close the tonneau cover and rear edge of glass at the same time...the cover got accidentally closed first and now the glass isnt able to latch into the cover as designed. now the trunk wont open and we cant seem to release the cover as we did before to realign the glass and cover. any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try opening the trunk manually - remove the metal blade from the SmartKey fob, insert it into the lock on the trunk, rotate it (clockwise, IIRC), and then pull the handle.

thanks, but we already tried that. lock cylinder for the trunk will turn but wont release trunk. is there a mechanism that releases the tonneau cover other than the two rear latches. the video said to release the latches and with the straps pull it towards rear of car. we opened it to put top up but now it wont slide back at all, the rear latches are still in the released position. also if top is in the up and closed position does the tonneau cover still release the same way by pulling it with the two supplied straps? thanks again

The cover releases the same way regardless of whether the top is up or down. If you left the cylinder locks open from inside the trunk, then you need to just put the straps back on the hinges, close the trunk and pull. BTW, how did you finally get the trunk open?
