IIRC, the WIS docs call for removing the PS fluid reservoir, but I have heard some people able to replace the solenoid without doing that. Either way, it's a fairly easy DIY. Oh, and if you want a good set of "external Torx" sockets, take a look at the Sears Craftsman Universal Max Access tools:

IIRC, the WIS docs
Forgive my ignorance to the terms but what are these and how would this information be accessed? Is there a document or video that shows how to remove the PS res, bolt placement etc? What about the rectangular aluminum thing next to the oil filter? It looks like a problem also. Sometimes I wish I had my 1988 300e back, all the room in the world and so easy to work on. Thanks agin for letting me go back to the well, Mike

"IIRC" is shorthand for "if I remember correctly" and WIS = Workstation Information Systems, i.e. MBZ's shop manual. You can get an "unofficial" copy on eBay for about $30 or so. That thing next to the oil filter is the cooler.

Here are the docs:

No worries! Let us know how it goes. WIS is the official guise, but sometimes it's not completely clear. Nothing beats hands-on experience!

Thanks Rodney!

I finally got around to replacing the camshaft magnets you said were causing my P00015 error code. After replacing them, I went to my indie and had him reset the CEL. After 2 weeks to allow the system to reset, I took the car into the emissions station and passed with flying color…no errors!

The forum has saved me lots of headaches and dollars over the years. I just wish something like this was around in the 70's when I was attempting to make my '65 xke convertible pristine. I was lucky to be able to search out a few mechanics to run a question by, but that was always a hassle.

I was looking at the automatic cabriolet opener…that might be my next project.

Thanks again.

Darryl

Thanks all!

Just FYI to all, I decided to change my magnets a second time. I would get a P0012 code here and there once the oil would get dirty after about 3k-4k miles (Sometimes would get a P0022 as well). My mechanic advised me there is a second updated part number for these magnets so am hoping this will solve my issue. The newest part number is 272-156-00-00.
