Hello all,

I am trying to find out if I can buy a crankshaft position senor for my MB CLK500 which it went bad. I called a few dealerships and the prices fro the sensor go from 150 to 250 dollars for one sensor, I think it is a lot of money, anyway I called a few auto-parts and I was quoted 65 dollars for a sensor which I think is a great price but when I called the dealerships earlier all of them asked me for my VIN and I am wondering if I really need to buy the part from a dealership because it goes thru a VIN number or I can use the auto-part sensor.

any help would be appreciated.

You can order it on www.autohausaz.com. I believe they have it for like $40 on there. I've order from them and have had no issues. I think the dealer just wants your vin# to be sure they'll give u the correct parts.

it depends how quickly you need it, i got mine from napa which is local and it worked flawlessly since. it was like $60.
