Questions B4 buying W209 coupé
Hey forum!!
New here and interesting in buying a w209 CLK coupé and wanted to know what kind of common problems I may encounter and what to look out for before purchasing one?
If there is already a thread for this I will gladly check it out as well.
I don't want to spend over 15k and looking to get the lowest mileage and best condition. Power isn't terribly important but rather reliability but if the MPG difference with the V6 and V8 are minimal then I may consider the V8.
Just want to get a good deal, reliable, and good looking CLK coupé I can afford. Thanks in advance for all your responses and time!!

There are plenty of threads like this that go over common issues of the w209
Also make sure to find out if the car you are going to buy is in the affected range of balance shaft issues which include a number of M272/M273 engine types.

Your safest choice in that case is the 2005 CLK 320 also known as the "bullet-proof" model. It has the reliable M112 engine and the 722.6 transmission.
Like Rudeney said. Stay away from 2006-2007 models. Too many expensive problems with the engine and transmission.

Great! That sounds like a good compromise. I just really want to get myself in one of these but don't want to have to worry too much about maintenance except for the routine things that any car has. Bullet proof sounds perfect to me hahah. You guys have been super helpful. Thanks xsever!!!

MY2003/2004 have the good combination of M112 (V6) or M113 (V8) engines with then 722.6 transmission that is good for the long haul. The prices should be good, too. You'll just be getting an older car, and it's going to have the older style interior (MY2005 and later has the facelift style).

The 2005 model will give you the new interior of the 2006-7 models but without their major problems. The 2005 model will also have most of the 2003-4 problems solved. It's a win-win both ways.

Do you mind sharing if you are in the states or no? If so, what part? Only reason why I am asking because I am debating to sell my car.

I would bet on an 05 320. Like others said, updated interior and features with the kinks worked out from 03, 04 (which may have valeo radiator issue, my 04 e320 did). 05/06 500 may have 7 speed tranny issue. 06/07 350 and 07 550 may have balance shaft / idle gear issue.
