CLK350 2006
New Engine Required?
My mechanic is telling me that I need to replace the engine?
My 2006 CLK350 had the following issues:
0060 - POO15
1208 - POO16
1200 - POO17
2069 - PO073
He stated it will cost $6,500 for a used 2009 engine with 6 month warranty? Does his recommendation sound legitimate.

You didn't give much info, like what symptoms you are having, mileage etc. All you gave us was codes the engine computer is storing. My guess is you are having the well-known balance shaft problem - you can search the forum and read all about it. The balance shaft problem is a big repair, but not usually a new engine type repair. But you need to give us more info because codes can indicate more than one issue. Usually with the balance shaft problem the car runs more or less ok at least at first.

You should also tell us who your mechanic is - one who works on everything or an MB specialist? He may not even be aware of the balance shaft issue. With some exceptions, I would not take an MB to a guy who also fixes Dodge trucks.

Here is additional information I have a 2006 CLK350 with 180,000 miles. I have looked into the balance shaft problem, but my mileage is too high to be covered. I go to an import specialist who only works on MB, BMW and a few other cars.
The car is running strong, the problem is when I slow down and stop it starts shaking and appears as if it is going to stall.

Yes, your mileage is too high to be covered, but that doesn't mean you can't get it repaired. What I was saying is the balance shaft repair is less than a used engine. But at 180,000 miles that is a different issue. An '06 350 with 180,000 miles is not worth much more than $6,500 even w/o any engine codes. It might even be worth less unless its a convertible. I'd have a hard time spending that sort of money on that car whether it was the new engine or just the shaft. You might at least consider wheter this car has done it's duty and moving on.

1200 and 1208 are the tell-tale symptoms of balance shaft failure. Dealers charge $K-$5K for the job. An indy should be less - maybe $3K. And this will be a permanent repair - the M272 engine with a good balance shaft is pretty solid.
0060 is indicative of camshaft adjuster solenoid (a.k.a. cam magnet) failure. That's easy and cheap - $100 in parts and maybe an hour of wrenching.
2069 is a problem with the ambient temperature sensor (nothing to do with engine performance).
