Keyless Go fix?

I'm having problems with the Keyless Go in my 2005 CLK320 convertible. Seems like I have to "wiggle" the gear shift lever to get the on-off button to work - and sometimes it takes awhile to find the sweet spot.

Indie says something is broken - $1000+ to fix?? Seems a bit extreme to fix an on-off switch and especially at only 75000 miles. Any ideas? What $700. part might be broken??

Any comments/advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
I believe the issue is that the KeylessGo function is built-into the gear selector mechanism, and the mechanic would replace the entire part. In practice, it may be possible to remove the mechanism and find the loose wiring or dirty contact and fix it.
