Replace 17" wheels w/ 16"
I'm tired of the low profile, 14 replacement tires last year due to sidewall blowouts. Does anyone know if any other 16" Mercedes model wheels will fit directly onto a W209 ('05 CLK500) without having to use spacers? Also what size tires will give me close to the same overall dimensions as the 17's

Seriously - 14 in a year? Where do you live? 17s are not even all that low-profile. I think that sites like Tire Rack have a diameter calculator if I am not mistaken where you can plug in different sizes to get the diameter or size equivalents for different size wheels. I've only once blown out an 18", and that was from hitting a fist-sized chunk of steel in the road.

Another consideration would be that the rims have enough clearance for the brakes. With the V8's larger brakes, that might be tough.
I'm with Yidney on being amazed at the number of blowouts. I worked in an industrial area for a year and I had a couple of tire issues due to shrapnel and potholes, but nothing like that! I hope you are buying the road hazard warranty!

I'm running on 19" and at the amount of potholes and uneven road surfaces in my country i have only changed 1 tire in 2 years. I strongly believe its because i put in 35psi into each wheel. Each time i find somebody who is always changing tires i notice they dont pay attention to keeping their tires correctly inflated.
