Emissions question

Hello guys I just bought an '05 500 and would like a bit more of growl to the engine, but here in GA we have emissions testing; if I delete the secondary converters and the resonator, would this give me problems passing emissions? I was also considering just upgrading the whole exhaust and spend a bit more to have some hp gains... What system could I do some research considering emissions laws?
Thanks!!

Deleting the resonator won't have any effects on emission. I'd recommend removing that first then going from there. Everyone has different tastes. If that's not enough growl, you can then remove the muffler and place a straight pipe with a tip or add an aftermarket muffler instead.

I live in GA also. I have no secondary cats or resonator, but I believe the secondary cats in a 550 are really resonators. In the 500 they are really cats and hence may cause a problem with emissions testing.

Gaazmon's recommendation makes sense to me, particularly for a 500.

Thanks Fatz, I'll check that. By the way, who did you use for you Kleeman upgrades? Called Malone's but did not hear back from them...

NO LONGER ACTIVE
There is some confusion here. The "rear cats" seem to be only resonators on most later models, but even on earlier models, they are all downstream of the O2 sensors, so any emission tests that use OBDII scans will have no idea what's there or not.

Yup Fatz, they are "bubble resonators". I was worried, but when they cut one at the shop they confirmed they are just resonators. The 272/273 only have 2 primary cats while the 112/113 have 2 primary and 2 secondary.

I have been debating about deleting the secondary cats on our 02 CL500 for some extra growl and depth so was worried about emissions checks especially with the new OBDII testing.

There is a small performance group at the Mercedes Buckhead dealership that did the work on my car. The lead guy is Kevin Ingold.

Thanks for all the info guys!! So Rodney, you believe I should be good deleting the secondaries then, correct?
Here in GA they do use the OBDII testing though they also insert a probe through the exhaust, I don't really know if this is another kind of test or just standard procedure for regular testing...
