Subwoofer Install
Subwoofer Install
Quick question:
If I am to add a subwoofer to the existing Bose system would I have to disable speed sensitive volume and the mic that is housed in the top console (near the tel aid mic i believe). i read in another forum that doing so will prevent sudden changes in volume after the woofer install. Is this measure required with the CLK..??
Thanks guys.

I haven't done the subwoofer install yet but I do believe you have to disconnect the mic. to prevent the sub from freaking out.
Cliffybabe recently installed an amp & sub and I believe he did disconnect the mic. I would imagine he'll respond when he sees your post.

So the instructions in the other thread would work with the CLK as well...??
Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of changing some of the speakers as well. How are the Bose speakers regarded..?? They sound good to me but I don't have a reference point from which to judge them. Are there better speakers out there and would it make a big difference in sound..??

I believe that Cliffybabe reported that those instructions worked ok in his CLK.
The Bose speakers are just OK in my opinion. They should sound better when you add your sub as you'll be able to turn the bass down a bit in the factory speakers which will keep them from working too hard.
There are a lot of better speakers on the market depending on what you're willing to pay. Whether it's really worth it in a noisy, confined car environment is an individual choice. I will probably keep the Bose system intact in my car and add a 12" JL Audio sub.
Cliffybabe changed out some of his speakers and reported some good results.

Do you have the Bose system? If you did, how did you change the speakers while keeping the Bose HU? Did you use an amp to power the new speakers? How did you hook up the amp? I don't think there our line level outs on the Bose. Is there any sound degradation using speaker level outs? I wanted to put two focal 11" subs, but I've been told it would overpower the stock speakers. If I replace the stock speakers, I hear I would need to replace the HU. This means that if I want the bass of two Focal 11" subs, I would need to replace the whole freakin system!!
I haven't got bose but if I had i still would of ripped it out, I have seen other car's posted with the bose using the line tap from the bose sub and using a thrid party amp and have read it sounds great.
I used a line tap from the rear sub connection and it was fine when i was running just the 2 jl audio 12 inch subs, or so i though until eich pointed out that the line out is ok but not very powerful the connection is not very strong as its only using the speaker out which isnt very clean.
So i looked at a line out converter to a 14 volt connection and eq's etc, I went for a Audio control eqs eq, it take two rca connections and creats 3 outputs front, rear and mono, i used a splitter from the line out and got the rest of the system running from the eq it can convert the sinal to a 14volt connection and the sound is great however the trick was to line tap direct from the rear of the HU and run the rca cable to the boot for a better sound control and clarity.
