damn potholes

this week has been real headache for me. I been taking my bent clk500 rim shop to shop. All of them saying they can fix it and them calling me back the next day saying they can't fix it. I ordered my tire from tirerack already and now I had to call them again to order a new rim. This whole thing is gonna end up costing $600. I will not make the mistake again of trying to fix bent rims again. Better off just ordering a new one.

The worst place to go is this place "Poor Freddies Tires" in Jamaica Queens. They see you driving a benz and start jacking the price up and wanting to get big tip for "hooking you up".

yea 500 comes with thin spoke monoblock amg 17s.
With the cold weather, snow, salt, the roads in ny are horrible.
Especially the highways. van wyck is the worst, followed by LIE.

Damn that must have been one hell of a pothole if you bent a 17" rim - you must have been going over 100mph?! Was it just bent or was it actually cracked?

It sure was one hell of a pothole alright.
I was only going around 60mph. Hit the damn pothole dead on.
Im trying to see if the city will pay for the new rim and tire.
The rim was bent but I didnt reallize it was that bent out of shape. From what the tire shops were saying its bent pretty bad.
I guess it lost its round shape and once it gets to that point its really hard to fix.

Yo, I know how Poor freddies operates. I feel bad for you when it comes to the Van Wyck or any road in NYC. I've bent a few rims on the Belt Parkway with it's raised speed bumps and sometimes missing storm drain covers. Damn! The bad thing iz I have to drive all the way back to Boston with my lip busted.

Yeah buddy dont worry, i feel you. You should come down to California in Los Angeles. We got pot holes everywhere. When im driving i dont look at another cars but just look down on the ground and see if I could dodge any potholes. Its really bad especially down in Downtown LA. Yeah i have gotten some flats before from pot holes, but wow, benting a 17' rim from a pot hole. How do you do that

I was really surprised that I bent my rim. I thought AMG rims were tough. I used to have 18inc wheels on my last car and I used to hit some potholes hard and not a dent.
I guess that pothole was real deep.
When I am driving I am looking at the ground instead of looking ahead because im constantly dodging potholes in ny. I never seen such horrible potholes ever seen since i been driving.

Check out Wheels America on Long Island. They do good work.

Believe it or not, all 4 of my Carlsson 1/16s were bent after a year of traversing the potthole ridden roads of NY/NJ. And after a major pothole incident on the NJ Turnpike (word of advice - never drive behind a tractor trailer at night - it's size and shadow will mask any pothole and give you no time to react once you see it), two of my rims were unrepairable so I had to order two new ones.

So predator, trust me, I know how you feel.

are you serious? Did you have to order the carlssons direct from germany? Or are they finally selling the 1/16's in america?

Unfortunately, yes - I am serious. I got the replacements from Oberklasse. I think they are the only folks in the US who sell them.

Another option is to get them through Harris at Harton Motorwerks. He got me my first set. And in retrospect, I should have gotten this set from him too. Oh well.

After going thru a week of headaches I got my Rim fixed by the place who said they couldn't fix it. I asked Poor Freddies again and they went at it again to fix it and fixed it back into shape.
I am very pleased with the work Poor Freddies did. Make sure if you guys go there ask for Big Jazz, he is pretty cool and he totally hooked me up, only 30bucks for a lot of work.
