SRS light comes on after opening top
A random thing happened the other day on my 05 clk320 cabrio. I started the car and everything seemed to be normal until after opening the top. After I opened it, the srs light came on with a message saying its defective drive to workshop. My car has 103,000 miles. Was the srs light somehow triggered when I opened the top?

It's probably coincidental. A common SRS failure on the cabriolet is the side airbag in the seat. The wiring harness for it is almost too short and it can tug and create an open circuit. But, I'd get a proper diagnosis to know for sure. Unfortunately, you can't read SRS system codes with a generic OBDIi scanner - you'll need a high end tool like the dealer's SDS.

Remove the seat back and look for the wiring harness going the airbag. On mine, it was really tight, and I had to remove the plastic trim on the side of the bottom seat cushion to get some slack in it.
