Anyone here with dual exhaust ?

Hey guys I went to a shop near me to get the dual exhaust done . After lifting the car they pointed out that its very difficult to do it since I have a convertible . There are 2 braces going under the original pipe . They told me they would have to go under it . and I was quoted $500 for the piping and tips . Anyone here did it on a convertible ? and what are the prices you paid. I think that $500 for tubing and a couple of aftermarket tips is a lot .

I can't speak to the routing issues, as I do not have a convertible.

Regarding the price for the work; It depends on how the exhaust is done.
- Butt welds are more difficult to do than lap welds and cost more
- Butt welds create less turbulence and a cleaner sound (preference)
- Mandrel bends are much more expensive to do than crush bends
- mandrel bends create less restriction to exhaust flow
- if crush bends are used you need to upside pipe diameter a bit
- larger pipe is harder to route and create a more "rumble" sound
- TIG welds are more difficult and costly than MIG welds
- TIG welds are likely stronger for stainless steel

I paid about twice the amount you were quoted for mandrel bend tubing, TIG and butt welds.

I paid about that much for 1 magnaflow tube muffler, 2 glass packs and all the tubing cat back.

What I am looking to do is leave the original muffler in place and use an electric cutout after the resonator to run to the passenger side exhaust & Also adding quad tips . I just want it this way so if I want to quite down the exhaust I can just run it as normal and open it up when I want the sound. I just think $500 to weld a cutout and ad piping to one side is really expensive . BTW I am getting all the parts

For that about twice what you were quoted price I paid for mine was new pipes from about 18 inches aft of the cats (which is immediately after the collectors of the headers) all the way to the end (dual). The price included the resonators. Tips and muffler were supplied by me.

So, for 1/4 the pipe connecting and no material supply or bending I guess $500 is a bit high.
