Holy cow, that is a lot of miles. Its good to hear that the w209's seem to last a long time with only the normal wear and tear items that need replacing. I just started to DD mine as my MS3 is slowly turning into a racecar. What's funny, is that my CLK550 actually gets better gas mileage than my turbo 4 banger. I do have a question though, when I purchased the 550, I also purchased a warranty from third party for just over $5k. I'm paying it monthly over the course of 24 months, so roughly around $212 each month. This covers the car from bumper to bumper minus the wear and tear items. As reliable as these cars seem, I feel like I am throwing money away. My last benz (C55) developed some electrical gremlins which cost me around $1.6K to get fixed so I wanted to be protected when I bought this one. So far at 25,000 miles (purchased with 21.3K miles) nothing has happened and the car drives like a dream. I can turn a wrench and tend to like working on my own cars and from reading what happens to the w209's, the issues all seem like problems that are easy enough to be DIY. I've changed all 16 spark plugs, trans fluid, valve cover gasket, brakes, rotors on my last C55. So far on this one I've replaced brakes and rotors myself, and that was only because the rotors on the car were rusted (I'm sure they were the OEM from 08'). I drive the car like a grandpa and never beat on it, I leave the gear banging for when I drive my Mazda. What do you guys think? Drop the warranty?

TL;DR
I'm paying for a $5k warranty bumper to bumper (minus wear and tear items) that I feel I don't need on my 08' CLK550. Should i keep it or drop it? I'm handy with a wrench and can fix things so...

I'd drop it, but I never buy extended warranties. I don't think I've ever fixed anything that would have been covered by an aftermarket warranty. But my car also only has 65,000 miles.

I have an 08 and the warranty has, of course, long expired. With my mods I don't think anyone would sell me an extended warranty anyway. Which saves us both time, as I would not buy one.

I've had 2-3 things that would have been covered under a warranty. Air/Oil separator, motor mounts, and oil cooler/filter housing. Having these things repaired cost me less than $5. If I had a warranty for the 6 years it would have cost ~ 6*2500 = $15000.......

It sounds that you are more of a qualified DIYer than me, but I do the "light" and routine stuff. Car has 130K miles and I drive it pretty hard daily, before bedding her down in the garage...

I'm pretty sure motor mounts would be classified as wear and tear. But I get what you're saying. I will probably drop it since it doesn't seem like these engines break easily and the trans seems to last forever (knock on wood). Any other small things I should/can be able to fix in my garage. $215 per month is a lot of beer money to waste! Lol

How many times were motor mounts replaced? I think they go every 100k or so?

Update. Wife's 04 CLK500 has 358,000 miles, would be close to 400,000, but Wuhan China virus cut her job to almost nothing for over a year.

2005 320CLK Cab
WIfe's 2005 CLK just went in for rotors & brakes: 160K on the odo. the brakes (MB OEM) only lasted just over 4 years.
got it home & it was chirping, then scraping like crazy.
went back into the shop . I was thinking dragging brake pad or maybe poorly done bearing.
Nope. Told one e-brake setup rusted through the pins & was rolling around the drum. The other side was badly rusted too & about to fail.
That's gonna cost I understand the exhaust hangers are rusting off so that's probably next up.
The car is in darn nice condition, but these expenses at this age make one go hmmmmmmm.

115,000 Miles, Second owner ( I think)

Still love this car.

MB just announced no move V8 coming to America unless you buy a G class. I expect my CLK just jumped in value by at least a grand!

Smile Extended warranties

I just bought a 2009 CLK Convt, only 49K miles. Very nice , no dings or dents, and runs great, and everything works., I never bought a warranty and don't believe in them in general. However, knowing some of the problems with this convertible top, and all the electricals on this car etc, I bought a Exclusionary Warranty, were I know the parts that are not covered which is mostly like brake pads, rotors, etc, and those parts are all spelled out. The rest of the parts even all the relays, pumps and motors in the convt are covered, along with every thing else like power WDW, seats and locks, A/C , water pumps, radio, etc, etc are covered & of course the Engine & Trans.

I pay monthly and can cancel anytime. It has road side assistance, rental car , hotel cover etc. It cost is $103 a mth. Yes, I do my own maintenance like brakes, rotors, belts, radiators, etc.
Now as most contracts go, it doesn't kick in for 90 days and 1,000 miles but even during that period you are somewhat covered. The deductible pay out for each repair event (Not item) is $100. So, being new to this car, I think that's not too bad, and like I said, I can drop it anytime, no penalties etc. So, I did it, but I will consider my options as the months go by, Oh, the 1st mth I got for one cent.

I had many use cars, mostly Toyota's and never felt the need for a extended warranty. This time, I feel different, reading some of the complexities of this fine car.
