Oil level message

I started getting an intermittent "Check oil level at next fueling" message. Happened three times while driving and then went away by itself. After stopping for lunch the message did not appear for the rest of the day.
I checked oil level and found it to be ok. Is this message set off only by oil level or is it also somehow mileage driven dependent?
Thanks all!

The few times I've gotten the message, the oil was indeed below the full/max mark on the dip stick. It was generally about 1/2 - 3/4 quart low (I generally top off to a couple ticks below the max mark).

I think it is dependent on how hard you happen to be driving (the oil splashes around), but not mileage dependent.

How to add oil?

I have the same message "Add 1 litre engine oil in next refueling". How do I add engine oil myself? I searched all over the search engine without a clue. Is it easy enough that I don't need to bother my mechanic?

Also, what engine oil should I use and I wouldn't mind spending more money on a high quality ones.

Thanks

J

The oil cap is at the top front right of the engine, it's pretty much the first thing you see when opening the hood. Use Mobil 1 0W40 -

If you don't have a dipstick, you'll need use the electronic measuring which you can access from the steering wheel controls.

If you're losing oil, I'd check your valve cover gaskets and look around the engine for any leaks.

Thanks for ur response. I believe my mechanic told me that it is normal that I have to keep adding oil.. it's just a car getting old and uses up more to do the job.

Let me get those engine oil and add it myself. I assumed Partsource/ Canadian Tire/ walmart should have this engine oil for sale?

How much oil should I pour in? All the way to the top?

Thanks

Yes, Walmart will have it.

Add only as much as you need, definitely DO NOT fill it to the top. If you're getting a warning that says "1qt low" - I'd add just under what it's asking for.

If you're approaching 100k miles and haven't had your gaskets and breather hoses checked - I'd look into it.

Good luck!
